We are a vertically integrated manufacturer and our products are made at facilities located in Quebec, Ontario, and Saskatchewan.
As a Materials & Qualification Specialist, you will report directly to the Engineering and Technical Director in our Engineering team.
GETTING TO KNOW THE POSITION One of the strategic orientations that Nexans pursues consists in capturing growth and differentiating its offer by escalading the value chain from the production of cables towards the provision of innovative cable systems and services and solutions to better address the current and future needs of our partners and customers.
The position will be the voice of the technical team for all aspects of Grid &Connect; North America global supply chain for raw materials, semi-finished goods and finished goods. They will act as the Interface between North America commercial & supply chain teams, global supply chain, technical & production teams, and North America Central Engineering. The positions will also support the qualification process for CSA/UL approvals at global sites.
HOW YOU MAKE AN IMPACT Product / Plant Certifications: Support global Nexans manufacturing sites through CSA/UL project scoping and execution based on NAM leadership team guidance on growth opportunities




Maintain certification project schedules, ensuring completion on-time
Review existing CSA/UL certifications (internal and external to NAM) to determine if they are acceptable for cables that NAM team intends to quote

Raw Materials: Work with purchasing and operations teams to identify, investigate, trial and approve new raw material suppliers for cost savings, CSA/UL qualifications and risk mitigation purposes
Promote standardization of raw materials between NAM sites where possible
Conduct initial inspections and ongoing audits of RM suppliers as required

Inter-Company cable supply Provide technical oversight of Inter-co supply chain implementation, along with regular check-ins once production has commenced. Understand manufacturing capabilities of subject sites, identify gaps and opportunities for those sites to be better-suited to production of required UL/CSA cables
Support global Nexans manufacturing sites in specifying locally-sourced equipment where required to produce NAM cable constructions

Quality: Participate in NAM ISO 9001 / ISO 14001 certification and audits
Monitor testing of globally-sourced RM & FG within site of manufacture or at a NAM testing location to ensure compliance with internal & customer specifications and applicable standards

Commercial & Marketing technical support: Provide technical advice and information as required by commercial & marketing teams related to CSA/UL portfolio of products. Includes communicating directly with customers /installers / end users.

Product design: Serve as backup for product design engineers at NAM sites if required,



in case of increased design backlog, absence due to extended vacation or sickness, etc.

Expected Results: Project management – 50%: Manage or supervise UL / CSA qualification projects for manufacturing sites within NAM and globally, product lines and raw materials. Includes travel to other Nexans sites, testing labs, raw material & equipment suppliers etc.

Technical ownership of NAM raw material sourcing: 25% Manage or supervise the technical aspects of recent raw material sourcing, vender evaluation etc. Key participation in redesign-to-cost initiatives
Maintain NAM raw material specifications
Remain up-to-date on developments in cable raw material supply chain, and identify & suggest opportunities for Nexans to leverage new or modified materials or processes to improve competitiveness

Other central engineering functions – 25%: Acts as internal point of contact for topics related to cable certifications, material qualifications
Participate in customer specification reviews, comparing custom specifications with existing CSA/UL certifications, plant capabilities, previous customer specifications etc
Support marketing / innovation initiatives as required from a technical perspective

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE ? A minimum of 5 years of cable design, manufacturing or cable applications engineering experience
Excellent knowledge of CSA & UL power cables and their respective standards
Excellent interpersonal skills and communication ability with customers, contractors and management
University or College degree in engineering or engineering technology
Must be willing and able to travel globally on a regular basis
