We are seeking a passionate and skilled Educational Assistant to join the team at Elijah Smith Elementary School, a dynamic K–7 school in Whitehorse that prioritizes inclusion, relationships, and culturally grounded learning. This role is ideal for an Educational Assistant who is committed to supporting neurodiverse learners, including students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and developmental disabilities. The ideal candidate will be patient, creative, and passionate about helping individuals reach their fullest potential in an inclusive and supportive setting.
Elijah Smith Elementary School is a Kindergarten to Grade 7 elementary school, located on the traditional territory of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and Ta’an Kwäch’än council. We pride ourselves on integrating on the land learning and social-emotional learning into the curriculum.

Important application requirements Grade 12 graduation or equivalent;
Experience working with youth;
Demonstrated ability to support the learning, development, and inclusion of students with developmental disabilities and diverse learning needs.
Demonstrated experience supporting the learning, development, and well-being of intermediate elementary students
Knowledge of child development, learning differences and inclusive education practices in a K-Grade 7 setting;
Post-secondary training in Exceptionalities Worker Program, Special Education, Teacher Education, Early Childhood Education, Social Services or Medical Services would be an asset;
Thorough knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorder and characteristics of effective interventions such as Applied Behaviour Analysis would be considered an asset;
Demonstrated ability to work at the level of independence and with the degree of initiative appropriate to the position.

Ability to work effectively with students, teachers and parents;
Adaptability to cope with a wide variety of situations;

Standard First Aid; to be provided within 3 months of the first day of employment
