Are YOU our next Laboratory Assistant? As a Laboratory Assistant, you are responsible for the preparation of samples and/or reagents for routine processing, the performance of simple non-interpretivetests under the technical oversight of a Medical Laboratory Technologist asrequired, and the independent performance of simple non-interpretive tests escalating to a qualified Medical Laboratory Technologist for support and guidance as required. You will also ensure quality control checks and standards are run as required and participate in all quality assurance programs andensure company and Ministry of Health (MOH) guidelines are observed. Lastly, you will perform routine maintenance of laboratoryequipmentas appropriateanddeal withproblems that arise.

How YOU will make a difference: Receive and sort samples
Dataenterthe results intothe company'sdatabase asrequired
Ensurethatallabnormal,criticalandSTATSare processedasoutlined inthe department guidelines
Ensure that all samples are properly labeled and identified before testing
Followestablishedprotocolforthehandlingofunsuitablesamples
Perform pre-analytic specimen processing
Operateinstrumentsfollowingdepartmentprocedures
Performsimplenon-interpretivetestingprocedures
Handle infectiousmaterial following approved procedureswhile adhering to government regulations(i.e. TDG) as required
Responsibleforthe follow-uponmissingsamples,documentationandresultsasandwhen required
Ensureallinquiries andproblemsare handledinacourteousandprofessionalmanner
Ensureadequateamountofsuppliesareonhandandthatvalidatedreagentsandtestingkitstobeusedareindateorder
Ensure that qualitycontrolchecksare performedasrequiredindocumentedworkprocedures
Responsibleformonitoring qualitycontrolguidelinesand makingappropriatecorrections
ReferresultsforMedicalLaboratoryTechnologistto review and release
Responsibletofollowallrelevantpreand/orpostanalyticalqualityprotocolsasdescribedinthecompanyquality assurancemanual
Performroutinemaintenanceon laboratory instruments andequipmentfollowingdepartmentprocedures
Documentallmaintenanceperformed,includingminortroubleshootingfollowingmanufacturer'sinstructions
Participate in the review of procedural documents for accuracy and effectiveness as required
Observe andreportallmalfunctions inequipmentandmaintainallrequiredlogbooks for routineequipment
Responsible for disinfecting the work area and equipment on a daily basis
Storeanddiscardspecimensaccordingtoappropriatedepartmentproceduremanuals
What YOU bring to the role: You are CSMLS or BCSLS certified and/or a graduate of an MLA program accredited by BCSLS or equivalent awarding body (Canadian).Alternatively, applicants with a Bachelor degree in a related scientific or health discipline, or international MLA or MLT qualification, may also be considered.
You are customer-focused with a genuine care for patient's health
Prioritize and self-manage within a deadline-oriented environment
Be extremely detail oriented
Proficiency in English, both written and verbal, at a level that enables you to communicate instructions, clearly and understandably, to patients
25 to 40 words per minute typing speed required
Pay rate: $27.00-$30.75 per hour
The hiring pay range has been established; however, the final pay offer will be determined by taking into consideration various factors including but not limited to, level of experience and education requirements.
