ROLE

REQUIRED EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION(S)

Current registered member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
Current BLS certificate required
Recent/related courses, in-services in Surgical Nursing

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE(S)

Venepuncture - Initiation of Intravenous Therapy
Central Venous/PIC Lines - care and maintenance, bloodletting and discontinuation
Administration of Medications Below the Drip Chamber
Glucose Monitoring
Post-Operative PCA Pump
Fluid and Electrolytes and Blood work
Physical Assessment Course with good assessment skills
TPN Management
Enteral Feeding
Chest Tube Management
Wound packings and vacuum
Demonstrated ability in patient education




Ability to plan, organize and problem solve
Clinical documentation using the Meditech Information System

DESIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE(S) & EDUCATION

Recent clinical experience (minimum 2 years) in the areas of: Pre/Post-Operative Acute Care Surgery (including general surgery, plastics, vascular, orthopaedic, gynaecology, Urological and EENT) preferred
Clinical Nurse Educators that offer on-site training
Clinical Scholars available for on unit assistance and questions
Preceptor/Peer Mentorship Opportunities
Collaborative Team Environment
Nurse Support Line (Experienced Nurses or Registered Respiratory Therapists available for advice on non-emergent issues)
