Position Summary Reporting to the Electrical Engineer Lead, theEngineer - Electrical provides engineering services and support to maximize theRefinery electrical power system availability and reliability including major troubleshooting andresolution of events, electrical equipment andmaintenance strategies. TheElectrical Engineer supports the effective application of the NWR ElectricalSafety Program, Quality Management Plan and Process Safety Management. This role has the potential for careeradvancement as the successor of the Electrical Lead.
Responsibilities Interfaces with other NWR technical discipline team members andEngineering and Reliability, key suppliers and industry organizations to ensurethe best electrical practices are being implemented;
Supports the management of quality andconsistency of engineering in the plant for the Electrical discipline ensuringthat Electrical technical requirements are met across all engineeringinterfaces;
Supports development and updating ofElectrical standards and specifications for the refinery and ensure compliancefrom all parties;
Provides engineering expertise to Maintenanceand Operations groups for electrical maintenance programs, spare parts andtroubleshooting of electrical equipment;




Participates in field walkdowns to collectinformation, confirm new designs will work, inspect new installations,troubleshoot, support technicians and operators;
Provides technical support for approval ofvendors and suppliers to maintain the Approved Manufacturers List forElectrical equipment;
Keeps discipline records up to date,authenticate and stamp all final documents where required for use in the plantand ensure that equipment data is properly filed;
Provides support to keep up to date all NWRelectrical technical tools: ETAP software, Power Management System files anddatabase, heat tracing management systems, Smartplant Electrical, etc.;
Performs Electrical Power System Analyses andother applicable studies required to maintain the facility assuring compliancewith all applicable specifications and codes pertaining to all aspects ofelectrical systems and equipment;
Participate in the specification and procurement of critical electrical equipment as required tomaintain the plant including preparation of requisitions, technical bidevaluations and supplier document reviews;
Evaluatestechnical deviation requests (deviations from refinery standards andspecifications) from the contractor as well as facility management of changerequests;
Reviewsand develops schedules and diagrams pertaining to main electrical power and itsdirect control systems;
Reviews electrical power analysis models for all electrical protectionarrangements, devices and sizes/ratings;
Creates and supports electrical calculations, equipment sizing, cablesizing, AC & DC UPS systems, transformers, lighting, impressed cathodicprotection, etc. for new projects;
Coordinates Electrical, Instrumentation and Telecoms cable rack inputsinto the Smartplant Design Tools;
Backfills the Lead - Electrical Engineer for vacation relief, etc.
All other duties as assigned.
Requirements Understands,

A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering;Registered as a Professional Engineer in the province of Alberta.
5 years of Professional Engineering experienceworking in a heavy industrial environment;
Strong understanding of safe work practicesand engineering obligations in an industrial environment;
Knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code,IEEE standards and other codes and guidelines for refinery and upgradingelectrical equipment and systems;
Ability to reach the right balance betweenbusiness and technical requirements and to work collaboratively with allstakeholders;
Strong communication skills with the abilityto build effective interpersonal relationships in addition to creating apositive and productive team-oriented environment.
