Job Description
Our client, a growing Western Star dealership located outside of Ottawa, is seeking a Heavy Duty Technician to join their team.

This is an exciting opportunity for a licensed 310T Technician or experienced heavy equipment mechanic looking to expand their skill set as the organization continues to grow its heavy equipment division, including loaders, excavators, and emerging electric equipment.

This position will initially focus on working as an in-shop 310T Technician supporting the dealership's truck operations.

As the heavy equipment division continues to grow, the role is expected to expand into servicing and maintaining heavy equipment, with a targeted timeline of approximately one year.

This provides a unique opportunity for someone interested in broadening their experience into the heavy equipment space while building a long-term career with the organization.

This role offers a mix of shop and field service work, manufacturer training, strong compensation, and long-term career growth opportunities within a team-oriented, family-oriented dealership environment.

What You'll Be Doing
• Perform diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on heavy trucks and commercial equipment.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic systems.
• Complete inspections, repairs, and maintenance in both shop and field environments.
• Conduct Pre-Delivery Inspections (PDIs) and equipment setups on new units.
• Install and configure attachments and accessories on heavy equipment.
• Respond to service calls and provide technical support at customer sites.
• Accurately document repairs, service work, and parts requirements.




• Work closely with the Service Manager and fellow technicians to ensure quality workmanship and customer satisfaction.
• Mentor and support apprentices and junior technicians as required.
• Initially focus on servicing and repairing heavy-duty trucks as an in-shop 310T Technician, with the opportunity to transition into diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy equipment as the dealership's equipment division grows over the next 12 months.

Schedule
• Day shifts available:
o 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM
o 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
• Future evening shift opportunities:
o 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM (Monday-Thursday)
o 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM (Friday)
• Potential opportunity for overtime based on business demands and service call requirements.

Skills and Requirements
• 310T Truck & Coach Technician license OR significant hands-on experience repairing and diagnosing heavy trucks.
• Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting experience with diesel engines, electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems.
• Ability to perform both preventative maintenance and complex repairs independently.
• Valid driver's license with the ability to perform road service work.
• Interest in developing expertise in heavy equipment as the dealership continues expanding its Liu

Gong equipment division.
• Strong communication skills and professionalism when interacting with customers.




• Team-oriented attitude with willingness to collaborate, seek guidance, and support junior technicians/apprentices.
• Ability to work in both shop and field-service environments.
• 421A Heavy Equipment Technician license.
• Experience working on heavy equipment such as excavators, loaders, construction equipment, or agricultural equipment.
• Experience performing:
o Pre-Delivery Inspections (PDIs)
o Equipment setups
o Attachment installations (thumbs, breakers, etc.)
o Field service repairs
• Previous experience with Western Star trucks or similar heavy-duty truck platforms.
• Experience working with diagnostics software and advanced troubleshooting.
• Experience mentoring apprentices or junior technicians.
• Bilingual (English/French).
