Job Description
The Technical Officer for Semiconductor Plasma Etch will help run the Advanced Technology Fabrication, or ATF, area at the Quantum Nanotechnology Research Centre.
The ATF lets outside clients and research partners use semiconductor research and fabrication work.
This includes simulation, design, building devices, testing, characterization, and making prototypes.
You will handle the plasma etch tools in this job. That means running systems such as Reactive Ion Etch, Inductively Coupled Plasma, and Deep RIE.
Your work will also involve getting the equipment ready for qualification, then checking how each step goes while the runs are active.
You will perform inspections, troubleshoot when something fails, and support the upkeep of the standard operating procedures.
Because of the work and site needs,
the role requires being on site full time at NRC in Ottawa.
Responsibilities
Run plasma etch systems, such as RIE, ICP, and Deep RIE.
Do tool checks and formal qualifications.
Watch each run and verify the equipment stays inside the set limits.
Work with the process engineering team to raise performance, improve yield, and reduce waste of time and materials.
Carry out regular inspections so the line can keep moving.
Support downtime reduction by finding the likely cause when a tool or step fails.
Apply fixes when equipment or the process shows a problem.
Set up SOPs and make sure they are followed day to day.
Teach and coach newer staff and equipment operators.
Follow all safety rules for a semiconductor fabrication site.
Requirements
The role needs postsecondary study in a technical field, like engineering or a science that fits the job.
You should also bring the items below:
Solid recent onsite work in a semiconductor plant or fabrication setting.
Deep experience with reactive ion etching, plus inductively coupled plasma etching (ICPRIE) on semiconductor layers.
This should cover work done with multiple etch chemistries.
Practical recent work designing tests to find process settings and to track how the fabrication line performs.
This includes time spent using tools for material or process checks and other characterization gear.
Experience with Oxford plasma etch systems is a plus.
You will be checked on how well you know plasma etch tools and related metrology tools.
They will also look at whether you can follow technical instructions and common standard steps.
A Reliability Status security clearance is needed. Background checks will cover the last five years.
