Hiring Unit: Department of Integrated Studies in Education (DISE) Course code and title: EDPS 622-001.
Professional Seminar 2A Description: Professional and ethical practices as novice teachers.
Case study approach of topics include: identity, professional competencies, contributions to education, professional organizations, digital technology integration, and professional development.
This course is not Team taught or offered online. Term: Winter 2027. Credits: 2. Location: Education Building (EDUC 211). Schedule: Monday, 05:35 pm-08:25 pm.
Teaching Qualification Requirements (TQRs) Education: 1. Master educator with a minimum completed master’s degree in a relevant field.
2. Teaching degree and certification, or equivalent.
3. Strong grounding in teacher development, reflective practice, and equity-oriented approaches to teaching and learning.
Experience: 1. School-based teaching experience in secondary schools, preferably in Quebec.
2. Experience supporting teacher candidates in field experience and/or internship contexts.
3. Demonstrated knowledge of: Professional and ethical practices in teaching, including responsibilities, standards, and professional judgment. Teacher identity development and the transition from teacher candidate to novice professional. The Québec Education Program (QEP) and skilled competency frameworks relevant to teacher education. Case-based pedagogies for examining professional dilemmas, ethical issues, and practice-based decision-making. Professional roles and contributions in education, including engagement with skilled organizations and ongoing professional development. Integration of digital technologies in teaching and professional practice.
Professional portfolios and repository documentation as tools for competency development and future professional learning.
4. Experience teaching or facilitating learning in teacher education and/or professional seminar contexts.
5. Experience supporting teacher candidates in reflecting on and developing professional identity and competencies.
6. Experience facilitating discussion-based, reflective, and relational learning environments involving complex or sensitive professional issues.
Other: 1. A commitment to working collaboratively in planning and delivering the course, both across course sections and across the program.
2. Knowledge of the impact and experience integrating pedagogical approaches anchored to equity, diversity and inclusion.
3. Familiarity using myCourses, Zoom and/or other similar online platforms to facilitate quality teaching and learning experiences.
4. Familiarity with the application of a variety of digital teaching and learning tools.
5. Familiarity teaching blended classes.
6. Instruction in this course may be delivered remotely if indicated as required by the university.
