The company employs over 550 locals and offers a diverse, inclusive, and respectful work environment.MissionTerus Construction, a division of Colas Western Canada Inc., is seeking a qualified Journeyman Mechanic to join our team in Prince Rupert, BC.Main ResponsibilitiesComplete work as directed by the Shop Foreman/Lead Head.Perform a variety of manual labor tasks in heavy/highway construction and construction material plants.Maintain a wide range of equipment and troubleshoot malfunctions from mechanical, electrical, and electronic standpoints.Operate several types of construction equipment to evaluate condition.Keep the job site clean: pick up all tools and equipment and secure the site each day to eliminate hazards.Load and unload trucks, haul, and hoist materials.Operate metal cutting, machining, and welding equipment (oxyacetylene, electric, and arc) in the repair of mechanical equipment and fabrication of tools, jigs, and fixtures.Weld, brazes, solder, and cut steel, copper, cast aluminum, cast iron, stainless steel, and other metals and alloys, performing emergency on‑site or scheduled shop repairs and metal work.Design, fashion,



and forge new tools, ironwork, and metal parts; modify existing equipment for special purposes.Ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed.Attend safety meetings and meet training goals for the job role and advancement.Requirements/QualificationsExperience working within a shop environment.Minimum two (2) years of experience working as a mechanic on construction equipment.Minimum two (2) years of field experience.Red Seal Certification.Can work independently with minimal supervision.Excellent planning and organizational skills.Excellent verbal communication skills.Good computer skills in troubleshooting equipment software.Must be a strong team player with a solid customer service orientation.Working ConditionsWilling to work in the field and in all weather conditions.Willing to work overtime (may include weekends) during the busy season (April to October) and on call as necessary.Ability to use hands and fingers to perform repair and maintenance tasks on construction equipment.Ability to stand, walk, and reach with arms and hands throughout the workday if needed.Ability to lift and carry 50 lb.Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch if needed.Ability to see clearly or with corrective lenses as necessary.The noise level on the shop floor and around equipment may be loud.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.This is a safety‑sensitive position; the selected candidate must pass drug and alcohol testing as required.Compensation DataThe starting rate is $63 CAD per hour.
