POSITION PURPOSE The Autism Support Worker is a key member of the School Support Services team and is responsible for supporting the creation and development of behavioural plans in collaboration with school staff for inclusion in the Individual Education Plan (IEP). The incumbent supports and implements applied behaviour strategies and supports development and growth of self-
regulation and social emotional learning as well as providing transitions supports to teachers in the implementation of PPM140 and PPM 156. The Autism Support Worker partners with
Principals/Vice Principals, Special Education Administrators, Teachers, and Educational Assistants on the development of Positive Behaviour Support Plans and Safety Plans in addition to creating materials and resources to support positive behaviour plans.
TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- 2-yr College diploma in a relevant area of study (e.g. Social/Behaviour science, Human
Services, etc.)
- Training in Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA) from a recognized institution
- 1 - 3 years relevant practical experience
- Familiarity and knowledge of the Education system and experience working in a school
and school district setting
- Strong working knowledge of the appropriate rules, regulations, and relevant legislation
affecting children/youth
- Awareness of non-violent crisis intervention strategies and best practices
- Superior critical/cognitive thinking and problem-solving skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to convey complex
behavioural concepts to a variety of stakeholders including students, teachers, parents, administration and outside agencies.
- Must be able to display positive attitudes and behaviors

- Excellent planning and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple and
changing demands
- Ability to effectively work independently as well as part of a team
- Proficiency in a computerized office environment
- Ability and willingness to travel for Board related business requirements
RESPONSIBILITIES
PARTNER/SUPPORT WITH SCHOOL TEAM
- Partners with the school team and external agencies, where applicable, on Positive
Behaviour Plans, Individual Education Plans, and Safety Plans (development and implementation)
- Always maintain strict confidentiality
OBSERVATION AND DATA COLLECTION/REVIEW
- Undertakes behavioural observations in consultation with classroom staff;
- Collects and analyzes data in support of ABA strategies for students, staff, and guardians;
- Provides transitional support while following PPM 140 and 156 guidelines;
- Creates and uses tracking/data forms.
SUPPORT FOR SELF-REGULATION, SOCIAL LEARNING, & WELL-BEING
- Provides support and facilitates development of individual students, small groups, and
whole classroom programming on self-regulation, social emotional learning, and student well-being. Examples include but are not limited to: o Breathing techniques;
o Self-esteem building/social skills/empathy/stress management;
o Kindergarten support;
o Creating school-to-home communication forms;
o Provision of sensory activities;
- Occasionally works together with external agencies (e.g. KRR; Health Unit; Tribal Health,
etc.).
POSITVE MODELLING SUPPORT
- Provides positive modelling approaches and techniques to support staff and students.
- Provides in-service training sessions for staff and students.

Plan and deliver training to RRDSB staff including but not limited to:
- Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training;
- Self-Regulation Training;
- Social Skills Programs
