Apply now and join our dynamic team as Manager, Accounting and help drive impactful change! Reporting to the CFO, the Manager, Accounting is a hands-on role responsible for managing the execution of financial reporting and analysis to support the operations of the Foundation.
Type: Full-time, Temporary role approximately 16 months
Location: Vancouver, Hybrid work arrangement and minimum 2 days/week in the office.
Key accountabilities include:
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timeliness of the close process and production of accurate financial reports.
- Lead day-to-day accounting functions (GL account reconciliations, accounts payables, posting of journal entries, disbursements) and provide support to Accounting Assistant
- Prepare financial statements and monthly reporting metrics to support Senior Leadership Team
- Assist with annual budget process by developing budgets, financial forecasts and providing variance analysis.
- Provide year-end audit support required by external auditors including working papers,
supporting information and responding to queries.
- Prepare/review statutory reports including T3010, gaming reports and GST/PST returns.
- Work closely with Donations Processing team ensuring accurate and efficient link between GL and donor database system (RE)
- Assist in the development and implementation of new processes and procedures to enhance workflow efficiency and effectiveness.
- Review and maintain externally restricted funds.
- Provide support and liaise with various stakeholders including staff of BC Women’s Hospital, Women’s Health Research Institute and Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) Finance
- Perform ad hoc analyses and projects as required.
- Supervise Accounting Assistant
- May review payroll information.
- Actively supports Reconciliation, Equity, Diversity + Inclusion (REDI) efforts of the Foundation, participates in inclusivity initiatives, demonstrating respect for differences through words and actions; seeks different perspectives when creating solutions.
- Participate in the Foundation’s Signature Events.
Qualifications:
- CPA accounting designation or a bachelor’s degree in accounting with 7+ years of equivalent, related experience in financial reporting
- Demonstrated ability to lead year-end audit preparation, manage audit requests, and liaise directly with external auditors
- Experience in the not-for-profit sector considered an asset
- Experience with Peoplesoft financial software and donor database system such as Raiser’s Edge (RE) an asset
- Working knowledge of current GAAP and restricted fund accounting including a strong understanding of inter-fund/unit accounting
- Familiarity with charitable sector statutory requirement
- Advanced Excel skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with a keen attention to detail
