Position Title: After Hours Staff
Position Type: Full -time, Permanent (Weekend availability may be required)
Reports To: Property Manager
Hours of Work: Shifts as assigned

As one of Canada’s largest private, non-profit developers of new affordable housing with supports, St. Clare’s Housing has enhanced neighbourhoods across Toronto’s downtown core. Our tenants represent a cross-section of the city’s racial, ability, gender, ethnic, and class diversity. Most tenants pay a rent geared to their income; others pay market rent for their apartments.

POSITION SUMMARY
St. Clare's Housing is seeking a dedicated and reliable After-Hours Staff member to ensure the safety, cleanliness, and proper functioning of our housing facilities outside of regular business hours. The ideal candidate will handle maintenance concerns, monitor tenant activities, and respond to emergencies, fostering a supportive community environment.
DUTIES
The duties of the After-Hours Staff fall under the following categories:
Security and Safety:
1. Monitor the entry and departure of tenants and their visitors.
2. Write reports of unusual occurrences.
3. Inform people of rules if necessary; no enforcement is required.
4.
Call the police or fire department in cases of emergency, such as fire or other life-threatening situations, and provide emergency services required access.
Tenant Support:
1. Carry a cell phone to receive after-hour calls from tenants regarding maintenance concerns.
2. Investigate and evaluate maintenance concerns, involving On Call Maintenance staff as required.
3. Follow instructions from On Call Maintenance staff, including contacting service contractors and providing access.
4. Make notes of changes in tenant behavior for review by tenant support staff.
5. Walk around the common areas to develop a familiarity with tenants and their visitors.
Maintenance and Cleaning:
1. Clean and clear spills, slush, and snow from common areas, with a focus on entranceways.
2. Empty common area garbage cans as needed and pick up stray trash.
3. Complete and submit the supplies maintenance/building checklist nightly.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic computer skills like sending an email with attachment, writing a report etc
- Previous experience in maintenance, cleaning, or security roles is preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and handle emergency situations calmly and efficiently. Reliable and punctual with a strong sense of responsibility.
- · Experience working in marginalized communities is an asset.
Working Conditions:
- The position requires working after regular business hours, including weekends.
- Ability to handle physical tasks such as lifting, shoveling, walking and cleaning.
- Exposure to various weather conditions while performing outdoor tasks.
- Prolonged sitting at desk.
