About the Position

Reports to the Manager of Animal Services: this is a dual role, the Animal Services Team Member is to execute all areas of existing Animal Control Contracts within the jurisdiction of the Brant County SPCA as well as performing the duties of an ACTM when not actively engaged in Animal Control duties. The incumbent develops and maintains relationships within the community, and promotes public awareness of the Brant County SPCA, and its services and the City of Brantford Animal Services. This position involves having a comfort level of working with all types of domestic, wild and farm animals and the ability to provide emergency assistance 24/7 to sick and/or injured animals under the care of the Brant County SPCA.

In addition, the Animal Services Team Member will provide support as needed to the community outreach department which includes assisting with Wellness days, Community Pet Food programs and any other initiatives of the community outreach program.

Responsibilities

Animal Services

· Responds to all concerns as it pertains to animal services contract (e.g., animals at large excluding healthy cats, sick and injured animals of all species, etc.) in a timely manner.





· Ability to assess sickness and or injury of domestic and wild animals

· Prepare and maintain necessary reports and records

· Maintain fleet vehicles by keeping clean, equipped with functioning tools and supplies etc.

· Completing vehicle inspections as required (circle checks)

· Ensure of proper storage and record keeping of medical supplies

· Providing end of life care by euthanizing animals, when necessary, as per policies and procedures.

· Complete errands, such as but not limited to transferring animals (vet clinics; pet stores; rescue groups), and picking up supplies etc.

Animal Care

· Ensure all animals receive the appropriate care and treatment required at all times.

· Health exams, administering medications, etc.

· Daily husbandry (feeding, cleaning)

· Providing daily enrichment

· Help to promote and facilitate adoptions

Other Responsibilities

· Attend meetings and SPCA events as required

· Assist shelter team with greeting customers, moving animals, etc.

· Assist with Community Outreach and Community Pet Food Pantry programs

· Other duties as assigned

Working Conditions

· Required to travel frequently throughout working hours. Required to drive company vehicles.

· Position involves repetitive physical activity such as lifting 20 lbs or more and climbing step ladders

· Performing work activities in all weather conditions indoors and outdoors





· Ability to work a flexible work schedule which includes some evenings, weekends and on call shifts

· The incumbent must be aware of unexpected circumstances and have the capability for dealing with unexpected animal and human behaviours

Experience & Qualifications

· High School Diploma or equivalent

· Police Clearance Certificate is required and must be maintained

· Valid “G” drivers’ license is required as well as a clean driver’s abstract which must be maintained

· Post secondary education in animal care/handling; Police Foundations or equivalent in experience an asset

· The ability to prioritize calls as they are dispatched

· The ability to work independently, as well as within a energetic team setting
