Associate Director of Care
Reporting to the Director of Care, the Associate Director of care (ADOC) is a highly skilled leader who contributes to the organizations values by supporting and leading a high-performing team dedicated to delivering safe, high-quality, and compassionate care to all residents.
Under the direction of the Director of Care, the ADOC leads and provides oversight for assigned clinical areas as per Shalom Village’s model of care and collaborates with other members of the care team to ensure exceptional resident centered care and best practices are consistent with Shalom Village, Accreditation standards, and all regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Director of Care in the leadership, planning, organization, and evaluation of nursing and personal care services within the Home.
- Provide clinical leadership and day-to-day supervision to Registered Nurses (RNs), Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs), and Personal Support Workers (PSWs).
- Promote a resident-centered care culture that supports dignity, choice, quality of life, and the Residents' Bill of Rights.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable legislation, standards, policies, and professional practice requirements, including the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021.
- Monitor the delivery of nursing care and ensure residents' needs are assessed, documented, and addressed through individualized plans of care.
- Participate in resident and family conferences, interdisciplinary care planning, and complex case reviews.
- Conduct regular clinical rounds and provide coaching, mentoring, and support to nursing staff.
- Assist with recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, attendance management, performance management, and staff development initiatives.
- Support the investigation and resolution of resident, family, and staff concerns, complaints, incidents, and clinical risks.
- Lead or support quality improvement, risk management, and evidence-based practice initiatives.
- Monitor and analyze clinical indicators, quality outcomes, and regulatory compliance measures, implementing corrective actions where required.
- Assist in preparing for Ministry inspections, accreditation reviews, audits, and quality improvement activities.
- Oversee and monitor mandatory programs
- Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, allied health professionals, community partners, residents, and families to ensure coordinated care.
- Promote occupational health and safety practices and ensure a safe environment for residents, staff, volunteers, and visitors.
- Participate in management on-call rotations and respond to operational, clinical, and emergency situations as required.
- Assume the responsibilities of the Director of Care during absences.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Current registration and membership in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) as a Registered Nurse (RN)
- Minimum five (5) years of progressive nursing experience, related experience preferably within a long-term care, seniors' care, or community health setting.
- Minimum of two (2)
years’ experience in nursing administration/management and completion of a management course
- Demonstrated supervisory or leadership experience managing interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
- Experience with staff coaching, performance management, scheduling, and employee development.
- Minimum two (2) years’ experience in gerontology or long-term care fields
- Thorough knowledge of the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021, related regulations, and Ministry of Long-Term Care requirements, considered an asset
Requirements:
- Eligibility for Employment - All employees (new hires) must be legally entitled to work in Canada and in the Province of Ontario, in accordance with the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada) and the Employment Standards Act, 2000 (Ontario). Proof of eligibility to work may be required as a condition of employment.
- Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) – all new employees are required to provide a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) completed within the last six (6) months of the hire date
- Tuberculosis (TB) Testing – all new employees must have either a two-step TB Skin test or Chest X-ray completed within the last six (6) months before they begin working
