Pediatric Neurology in the Department of Pediatrics, Alberta Health Services, invites applications for a full‑time Associate Physician position. The successful candidate will provide patient care at the Alberta Children’s Hospital under the supervision of Pediatric Neurologists responsible for patient care on the in-patient units, emergency department, and out-patient clinics throughout the hospital.

Neurology is the main source of evaluation for children in the Calgary Zone, providing tertiary‑level care for Southern Alberta and surrounding regions.

Neurology is a collaboration between the Cumming School of Medicine’s Department of Pediatric Neurology, and Alberta Health Services. Inpatient care is provided on Units 1, 2, 3 and 4 as well as within our Emergency Department.
Eleven Pediatric
Neurologists support the inpatient service and outpatient (urgent clinic), with diverse expertise in education, systems of care, and research. Weekly educational rounds and professional development opportunities include Weekly Pediatric Neurology and Neuroradiology Rounds, academic lectures, research, QI, and committee work.
Description
The Associate Physician working as part of a agile multidisciplinary team, under the supervision of a pediatric neurologist will work 38.5 hours/ week to provide comprehensive and quality clinical care to children at the Alberta Children’s Hospital. The responsibilities include sharing day-to-day clinical duties on the various in-patient units and the emergency department with other house staff (residents, clinical clerks), documentation of admission, discharge, daily progress notes, procedures, inpatient consultations, etc. In addition,
the position entails examination of patients and formulating care plans under the guidance of the attending or supervising pediatric neurologist.
Other responsibilities include familiarizing with unit practices and guidelines to ensure consistency of care, communication with families and coordination of care for patients being discharged, collaboration with multidisciplinary team members and specialists and participation in quality improvement initiatives and continuing medical education activities of the section.

Required Qualifications
Applicants must be eligible to work in Canada, including Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or individuals holding valid open work permits. As required by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA), candidates must demonstrate English language proficiency, typically through the Academic IELTS examination with minimum scores of 7.0 in each component unless exempt under CPSA policy.
Candidates must hold a medical degree from a medical school outside Canada or the United States that is listed in the FAIMER International Medical Directory, and must have completed at least one full year of hands on, supervised postgraduate medical education outside Canada and the United States.
Applicants must have successfully completed the Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination Part I (MCCQE1) and must be eligible for registration under CPSA’s Limited Practice Registry for supervised practice.
Additional Required Qualifications
Candidates must submit a current Curriculum Vitae and an AHS Clinical Assistant/Associate Physician Eligibility Pre Screen Letter with their application. Incomplete applications will not be considered. The successful applicant is responsible for maintaining licensure with the CPSA throughout employment.
AHS requires all applicants to complete a pre-screening process to confirm eligibility for CPSA registration; details are available on the AHS Medical Staff website. Applicants must demonstrate currency of practice within the last three years, either through independent practice, supervised regulated practice, or continuous postgraduate training for at least one year in the discipline. Fellowship training, community service, public service, national service, Medical Officer roles, and general practice experience do not meet currency of practice requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
It is anticipated this will be a highly competitive job posting. Preference will be given to applicants who have recent experience in an acute Pediatric care facility; specifically, those who have had specific experience within the last 3 years in a Pediatric Neurology. Those with experience in Pediatrics, Neurology, and Family Medicine are also welcomed.
