SCOC is a non-profit all-ages residential building dedicated to developing a safe and caring environment for gracefully aging seniors. This innovative community includes 140 apartments for both independent and assisted living, including many on-site health care and recreational services, as well as a 19-bed long-term care facility.

Position Summary

SCOC is seeking a Casual Part-time Housekeeper, Laundry, and janitorial roles in the Long-term care and other areas of the building and property as needed.

The successful applicant will be expected to work weekday, weekend, and holiday shifts as scheduled.

This is a SEIU unionized position.

Basic Qualifications

· An observant approach that notices what needs to be done, and a willingness to do it well.

· Dependable, punctual, trustworthy, responsible, respectful, courteous, helpful, hard-working, and patient.

· Able to work independently and reliably complete assignments with minimal supervision.

· A calm, respectful, collegial, problem-solving approach to encountering unexpected challenges and situations.

· Ability to lift, pull or push weights ranging up to 30 lbs.

· Ability to complete repetitive tasks including mopping, bending, kneeling, lifting, carrying, and pushing carts.

· Moderate English communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to follow written instructions.

· Experience in professional housekeeping required. Experience in long term care, and industrial laundry preferred.

· Knowledge of safety practices related to Fire Code, WHMMS, Infection Control, is an asset.

· Ability to meet and maintain health and safety standards as per long-term care legislation.

Core Functions





· Cleans and disinfects walls, floors, décor, interior and exterior of furniture, in private resident washrooms and bedrooms; common resident showers, kitchen, dining, recreation, and hall areas; and all staff areas.

· Carbolize and disinfect bedding, mattress, furniture, and closets before recent residents move in.

· Follows cleaning equipment colour code system. Folds and sorts cleaning rags and mops at end of shift.

· Organizes, tidies, and cleans work cart, and storage areas.

· Empties garbages, cleans garbage storage areas, takes garbage, soiled briefs, and recycling down to garage.

· Notifies ESM of repair needs and medical staff of healthcare needs. Works together with other staff to prevent and resolve issues and ensure a smooth running, positive environment for residents and staff.

· Refills toilet paper, paper towels, hand sanitizers, as needed.

· Places and removes pest control traps if needed.

· Follows and completes daily cleaning checklist and other audits or reports when requested.

· Notices and performs preventative, semi-annual, or other less frequent cleaning tasks when needed.

· Maintains a neat clean appropriate personal appearance.

· Follows WHIMS and Health & Safety guidelines.

· Reports any abuse/suspected abuse or alleged abuse to the appropriate supervisor.

· Respects privacy and confidentiality.

· Assists with other janitorial, laundry, or other duties as assigned.
