Job Title: Children’s Program Assistant (Casual/On call)
Reports to: Children & Youth Program Manager
Purpose of Job: Under the direction of the Children and Youth Program Manager, the Casual Children's Program Assistant supports the safety and wellbeing of participants in the After School Program and other CecilKids programs, participates in the Safe Walk, and assists with implementing pre-planned educational and recreational activities that help children engage, learn, and work toward their developmental goals.

About Cecil Community Centre
Cecil Community Centre is a not-for-profit, multi-service neighbourhood centre that offers a broad range of recreational, educational, social, cultural, and capacity-building programs to local area residents. For 40 years, the Centre has played a vital role in the lives of community members of all ages. Our Centre provides programs and services for children, youth, adults, and seniors.
Programs include the Family Resource Program, Community Drop-In, After School Program, Summer Camp, Youth Program, and English as a Second Language (ESL).
The Centre partners with a variety of community organizations to provide services to the community. Examples include seniors' health and fitness classes, English language instruction for newcomers, and tax clinics for people with low incomes. The Centre is an accessible, multi-functional facility that provides program and activity spaces to the community at large.
Responsibilities
· Assists with the delivery of educational and recreational activities for children aged 5 to 12, including the After School Kids Club, Walking School Bus, Saturday Club, seasonal day camps, PD (Professional Development) Day activities, and other designated programs as assigned.
· Assists with the implementation of pre-planned activities and contributes ideas to the Children and Youth Program Manager as requested.
· Helps create a fun and engaging program experience for children.
· Helps prepare program environments by keeping activity areas safe, clean, and sanitary.
· Participates in the Safe Walk to accompany children to programming.
· Supports a positive and inclusive setting for all participants.
· Follows all Cecil health and safety policies, procedures, and protocols, and supports the safety and wellbeing of all participants.
· Maintains routine records as directed, including registration, attendance, incident reports, and other applicable records.
· Reports any suspected cases of child abuse to the Children and Youth Program Manager in accordance with duty-to-report requirements.
· Assists the Children’s Program Coordinator by collecting attendance, incident, and activity information for program evaluation purposes.
· Attends and participates in required meetings and training sessions.
· Assists with program promotion tasks as directed (for example, distributing flyers or sharing program information).
· Adheres to and supports Cecil's Access, Equity and Inclusion policy.
· Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
· Post-secondary coursework, certificate, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field such as Child and Youth Care, Early Childhood Education, Recreation, or Community Development.
· Some experience working with children in a program, group, or classroom setting (paid or volunteer). On-the-job training and guidance provided.
· Exposure to after-school programs, day camps, or summer camp environments is an asset.
· Familiarity with, or willingness to learn, child safeguarding, duty-to-report, confidentiality, and health and safety practices.
· Good communication and interpersonal skills with children, parents and caregivers, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
· Commitment to access, equity, inclusion, and anti-oppressive practice.
· Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification, or willingness to obtain.

Hours and Wages:
Monday to Friday, between 1:30pm to 6:30pm, on call basis at $22.05 per hour (Grade 4, Step 1, effective January 1, 2026). This is a casual permanent position within the CUPE Local 2998 bargaining unit.
