Northern Zone, Colchester East Hants Health Centre Department: OPNZ PLM Pathology CEH Permanent Hourly FT (100%) x 1 Union: CUPE Healthcare Position Posting Closing Date: 9-Oct-26 About the Chance The Medical Laboratory Technologist performs analytical tests and procedures offered by the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine using appropriate methodologies and quality assurance techniques.
The Medical Laboratory
Technologist possesses the technical ability and problem-solving skills to perform all tests (both manual and automated) in the clinical and environmental laboratories. Performs laboratory tests with a network of steps and variables according to established protocols and works with little or no supervision in emergency and weekend/night situations. Operates instruments that are often computer integrated and networked and uses computerized information systems.
Compares test results to pre-established criteria (reference intervals) and makes decisions regarding the reportability of results, thus exercising independent judgment. Stressful working conditions require the Medical Laboratory Technologist to be tactful, sensitive and able to communicate effectively and professionally. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times as deemed essential by the Medical Laboratory Technologist Code of Conduct.
Must be a graduate from a recognized Medical Laboratory Technologist program or equivalent (as determined by NSRMLS)
Candidates must have successfully completed the Medical Laboratory Technologist Examination in all five disciplines Consideration may be given to applicants who are licensed in the preferred discipline (Histology) Licensure (active) with Nova Scotia Regulator of Medical Laboratory Sciences (NSRMLS) Personal Liability Insurance (PLI) required Ability to work shiftwork (weekends and holidays as required) Willingness to travel when required Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred Please ensure your resume is up to date and includes all relevant education, experience, training, and certifications.
