BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to and under the direction of Supervisor, Machining, this position is responsible for: 1. The programming, setting-up, and operating of Horizontal CNC Boring Mills for the drilling, boring, turning, reaming, tapping, and facing of various sized metal work pieces during the course of the mould/die build or repair according to customer specifications and requirement.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

The position of Machinist, Boring Mill is an hourly rated position with a work week being comprised of a minimum of 44 hours per week and work is performed on a two shift, rotational basis.

JOB DUTIES

- Enters program data into CNC control unit of Boring Mills for the drilling, boring, turning, reaming, tapping and facing of various sized metal work pieces. Downloads CNC programs from terminal if and when necessary.
- Examines work piece, selects work holding arrangement, and plans sequence of machining operations.
- Positions, sets-up, and secures work pieces to table and/or angle plates, using clamps, shims, parallel blocks and bolts.
- Verifies alignment of work pieces with center of machine spindle.
- Verifies proper pick-up and does quick dimensional check before proceeding with work to be done.
- Selects and mounts proper cutting tools in machine spindle.
- Operates CNC/Manual Boring Mills using controls to set feeds, speeds and depth of cut in order to achieve maximum operating efficiencies and quality of workmanship.
- Checks and verifies machining operation, at each step of the process, using various measuring instruments such as scales, micrometers, telescoping gauges, calipers, fixed gauges, and dial indicators.
- Performs regular inspection of assigned machine and completes inspection sheets provided for such.
- Reports ineffective tooling, machine problems, to immediate supervisor. 11.



Maintains cleanliness of machine and machine area.
- Operates overhead cranes system using chains, eyebolts, slings, etc. as necessary to moved work pieces or other materials when, where, and as required in the safest manner possible.
- Completes job card, on a daily basis, as to job number, hours, and operation performed.
- Uses and wears the equipment, protective devices and clothing as required by the Company.
- Performs regular maintenance of assigned machine and completes weekly maintenance checks.
- Works in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Regulations.
- Complies with all company rules, policies, procedures, and programs.
- Sharpens cutting tools using bench or pedestal grinder and is knowledgeable in the use of "Deckel Grinder" for sharpening specialized tooling.
- Other duties as assigned.

Required Education, Skills and Qualifications: Minimum education level preferred is Grade 12 or equivalent.

The successful completion of a Machining or Mould/Die Making course through a recognized College or other learning institute, coupled with a minimum of 3-5 years experience in programming, setting up, and operating of CNC or Manual Boring Mills is preferable.

Must have strong mathematical skills, ability to read and interpret blueprints, good attendance record, positive analytical skills, physical ability to handle all tools and equipment as necessary, familiarity with Fanuc controls, be able to work overtime as required, and be able to operate overheard crane & hoist systems safely.
