The Role

This role is part of Aurora's charitable programs; our training and performances are not run for profit. This position brings together community service, arts education and the preservation of cultural heritage. In our community-based charitable arts-education programs, you will teach traditional Chinese and Taiwanese dance to community enthusiasts, choreograph works for charitable performances, and lead a community dance team made up of our participants in charitable performances for seniors and for community audiences who have little access to the arts.

What You Will Do

1. Community and charitable service

- Lead the community dance team, made up of our participants, in charitable performances at seniors' residences, long-term care homes, community centres and community cultural events.
- Design performances and interactive programs suited to seniors and other community audiences.
- Help plan and deliver Aurora's charitable arts-education, cultural outreach and community engagement programs.
- Demonstrate and perform as program needs require.

1. Charitable arts education and cultural heritage

- In our community-based charitable arts-education programs, teach Chinese classical dance, Chinese ethnic and folk dance (including Yangge), and Taiwanese traditional and folk dance to community enthusiasts, from complete beginners to experienced dancers.
- Build structured curricula for participants at different levels, covering fundamentals, flexibility, classical dance expression, jumps, turns and tumbling.
- Explain the cultural background and meaning of each dance form, so participants learn the tradition along with the movement.

1. Choreography and rehearsal

- Choreograph works for community events, charitable programs and community performances, including music selection, movement design, formations and staging.




- Run regular rehearsals and prepare participants for community public performances (such as community cultural festivals and Aurora's charitable events).

What You Bring
- Formal training in dance or a related performing art.
- Strong command of Chinese classical dance, Chinese ethnic and folk dance, or Taiwanese traditional or folk dance.
- Ability to demonstrate technical movements, including jumps, turns and tumbling.
- Dance teaching experience, including independently planning and delivering a structured curriculum, and the ability to teach community participants at different levels.
- Experience in choreography and directing rehearsals.
- Clear communication and the ability to work well with participants, seniors, community members and partner organizations.
- Working proficiency in Mandarin, as classes are taught in Mandarin.
- A commitment to cultural heritage, arts education and community service.

Assets
- Experience with community, non-profit, charitable or seniors' arts programs.
- Experience teaching amateur participants or leading a community dance team.
- Training at a professional dance school or arts academy.
- Training or performance experience in Taiwanese traditional or folk performing arts.
- Stage performance experience or experience producing performance programs.
