ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW
Participation Lodge Grey-Bruce (PLGB) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting individuals with complex needs to live meaningful, self-directed lives. Across our programs throughout Grey and Bruce Counties, we provide person-centered support that promotes independence, dignity, and inclusion.
We are currently seeking Casual Support Workers to join our Assisted Living Apartment Programs in Owen Sound and Hanover.
Our Assisted Living Apartment Programs provide 24/7 support to individuals living independently within apartment settings. As a Support Worker, you will assist supported individuals with daily living activities, personal care, medication support, household management, community participation, and achieving their personal goals. This role plays a vital part in helping individuals maintain their independence while fostering a strong sense of belonging and connection within their communities.
This is a unionized casual position under the O.P.S.E.U. Collective Agreement. Casual employees work on an as-needed basis, have no guaranteed hours, and are not eligible for the pension plan or benefits. Casual employees may be scheduled based on operational needs and availability for day, evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support individuals in maintaining their independence within their apartments and community
- Provide personal care and assistance with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, oral care, and mobility support
- Assist with meal preparation, laundry, housekeeping, grocery shopping, and other household management tasks
- Provide medication support and follow established medication administration procedures
- Support individuals in attending medical appointments and maintaining their health and wellness goals
- Encourage community participation, social inclusion, and the development of meaningful relationships
- Assist individuals with transportation arrangements, appointments, shopping, and recreational activities
- Promote independence, self-advocacy, and personal growth
- Maintain accurate documentation and communication records
- Follow Individual Support Plans and Behaviour Support Plans as required
- Respond appropriately to emergencies, incidents, and crisis situations while following organizational policies and procedures
- Work collaboratively with families, Substitute Decision Makers (SDMs), healthcare providers, and other members of the support network
- Participate in required training and ongoing professional development
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Preferred Qualifications
- DSW, PSW, Human Services, Social Service Worker, or related education
- Experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, physical disabilities, acquired brain injuries, mental health challenges, or complex support needs
- Experience working in residential, assisted living, or community support settings
- Training or experience in behavioural interventions and person-centred support
Required Qualifications
- Valid Full G driver's licence with a satisfactory driving record
- Ability and willingness to transport supported individuals
- Vulnerable Sector Check (or willingness to obtain)
- Valid CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain; training offered in-house)
- CPI certification (or willingness to obtain; training offered in-house)
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills
- Ability to work independently and adapt to changing support needs
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Primarily indoor apartment and residential environments
- Day, evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts as required
- Ability to walk, stand, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and climb stairs
- Ability to lift up to 18 kg (40 lbs) and assist with mobility-related supports as required
- Computer-based documentation and administrative responsibilities
