Position Summary
We are seeking a caring, dependable, and compassionate Companion to provide non-medical support and companionship to clients in their homes. The Companion’s primary role is to help reduce loneliness, encourage social engagement, promote independence, and support the client’s overall well-being and quality of life.
The successful candidate will build a trusting and respectful relationship with clients while maintaining qualified boundaries and respecting their privacy, dignity, choices, and independence.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide friendly and meaningful companionship to clients in their homes.
- Engage clients in conversation and activities that are appropriate to their interests and abilities.
- Accompany clients on walks, appointments, church services, shopping trips, errands, community activities, or social outings as requested.
- Assist with recreational activities such as reading, puzzles, scripture reading, games, crafts, music, watching movies, or other hobbies.
- Encourage social interaction and participation in appropriate community and family activities.
- Provide emotional support and a reassuring presence to clients who may experience loneliness, anxiety, or changes in their daily routine.
- Assist with light meal preparation and snacks.
- Encourage adequate hydration and nutrition, within the client’s established care plan.
- Perform light housekeeping related to the client’s immediate living environment, such as tidying, laundry, changing linens, and washing dishes.
- Assist with organizing personal belongings such as laundry, groceries, while maintaining a safe and comfortable environment.
- Provide reminders for appointments and daily routines as appropriate.
- Complete incident reports and communicate significant changes in client’s physical, emotional, cognitive, or behavioural condition to the clinical lead in timely manner.
- Maintain accurate documentation of services and activities provided.
- Respect client confidentiality and maintain professional boundaries at all times.
- Follow all company policies, procedures, health and safety requirements, and client-specific care instructions.
- Report safety concerns, incidents, or changes in the client’s condition promptly.
- Provide transportation support when authorized and when the appropriate vehicle and insurance requirements are met.
Qualifications
- Previous experience working with seniors, older adults, individuals with disabilities, or vulnerable adults is an asset.
- Previous experience in caregiving, companionship, home support, community services, or customer service is an asset.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work independently and demonstrate good judgment.
- Reliable, punctual, patient, and compassionate.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Current First Aid/CPR certification required.
- Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Check required.
- Valid driver’s licence and reliable vehicle may be required for positions involving transportation.
Physical Requirements The Companion may be required to:
- Walk and accompany clients in the community.
- Assist with light household activities.
- Stand, walk, bend, and perform routine household tasks.
- Provide only those physical assistance tasks that are within the Companion’s training, role, and assigned responsibilities.
Important: A Companion does not provide nursing care or perform tasks outside their training or scope of employment. Any change in the client’s health or care needs should be reported to the clinical lead in timely manner.

Pay: $21.00-$25.00 per hour Expected hours: 3.0 – 20.0 per week
