Course Title: Health and Illness 1 (NURS 2303 WI01)

Contract Term: December 1, 2026 - April 30, 2027

Course Schedule: Winter Term: Mondays and Wednesdays 8:30 am - 10:25 am

Course Format: In person at Acadia University

Stipend Amount: The current Per Course stipend for this appointment is specified in Appendices H and I of the 17th Collective Agreement.

Course Description: This course explores the nursing of individuals and families in transition across the lifespan. Using evidence-based research, students will explore the role of the nurse in facilitating the health of individuals and families through various life stages including childbirth. Through a process of critical inquiry, biopsychosocial responses related to associated health and illness events across the lifespan. Prerequisite(s): NURS 2103, NURS 2203, NURS 2403, NURS 2413, NURS 2903

Qualifications: Applicants must be a Registered Nurse in good standing with the Nova Scotia Nurses and Midwives Regulator (NSNMR). The successful applicant must possess at minimum a Master's degree, preferably in Nursing or a related discipline. This is a concept-based course, with a variety of Nursing concepts taught.

However, there is a focus on pediatric, perinatal and reproductive health in this course. Familiarity with pediatric and perinatal nursing, including gestation, labour and delivery, postpartum care, and childhood development is an asset. Prior experience teaching in academic settings is also an asset, including previous experience as a course instructor.





Note: The Nursing program is a provincially approved and regulated program. Applicants will therefore be expected to teach and collaborate within the contexts of approval and accreditation requirements.
