About Us

North Mountain Construction is a general contractor based in Nelson and Fernie, BC, with 20 years of building across the Kootenays and beyond. We deliver bid-build, design-build, and construction management services in multi-family, commercial, institutional and light industrial construction, including BC Housing and affordable housing developments.

Our pre-construction team is small, highly experienced and leading the growth of the company.

The Role

We're looking for an estimator who has taken bids from start to finish and wants the room to run them. You'll own your tenders, decide how to get there, and use modern tools to do it faster and more accurately. If you see a better way, you don't need permission. Go ahead and do it.

What You'll Own

· Your bids. You'll take the lead from go/no-go through submission, typically on $10–25M projects, with the pre-construction team behind you. Larger projects are typically a cooperative effort.

· Takeoffs and pricing in DESTINI Estimator and Bluebeam, including self-performed carpentry scopes.

· Trade coverage. Sub and supplier invitations, scope review and bid leveling.

· Value engineering. Find the scope gaps and savings before the client does.

· Preliminary schedules and general requirements.

· Handover. A clean transfer of won work to our Operations team.

· Better tools. Improve our templates, workflows and cost database. If there's a faster way, build it.

· Relationships. Be a face of NMC with past, current and future clients, and grow our sub-trade network. You'll help secure the work, not just price it.

· Direct access. No layers between you and the Chief Estimator, Director of Pre-Construction or the Owner.

What You Bring

· 7+ years of estimating with a general contractor on commercial, institutional or multi-family projects

· Experience leading complete $10–25M bids from start to submission

· Strong working knowledge of construction methods, trades and procurement

· Proficiency with DESTINI Estimator (or similar), Bluebeam and Excel; Smartsheet is an asset

· Comfort adopting new tools, including AI, and the judgment to check their output

· A self-starter: you see what needs doing and do it

· Post-secondary education in construction, engineering or quantity surveying, or equivalent experience

· Valid driver's licence
