THE COMPANY
Eagle Engineering specializes in civil engineering consulting services for Provincial and Municipal highways in Southern and Central Alberta. Our specialties include highway design, geometric data collection, surveying, drafting, technical reporting, construction supervision and administration of major construction contracts.
THE ROLE The Construction Manager is an integral member of the Eagle team responsible for ensuring Total Project Management is delivered on-time and on-budget. This role is responsible for the review of project activities and onsite supervision of construction under the direction of a Project Engineer and/or Principal Engineer.
QUALIFICATIONS
Professional Designation: Considered an asset: APEGA Membership or eligibility to obtain.
Education: Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering or Project/Construction Management or related.
Experience:
· 5 to 10 years experience in the highway roadbuilding industry in progressively responsible roles.
· Experienced in supporting Project Managers in the delivery of the Construction phase with focused quality control skills.
· Environmental and Utilities coordination experience on highway projects.
· Experience working with Alberta Transportation or other government bodies is an asset.
Knowledge:
· Project Management
· Contractual and Government legislation familiarity with ability to contribute to reporting, studies and proposals.
· Working knowledge and practical application of Alberta Transportation design requirements and construction specifications.
· Ability to follow design drawings, details and specifications.
· Knowledgeable in the use of online tools such as Alberta Transportation Extranet, ABADATA and Spin2 is an asset.
· Knowledgeable in data collection and analysis, including surveying and materials testing.
Certifications:
Nuclear Gauge User Certification and other safety certifications is considered an asset.
Other:
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to lead a team.
· Strong problem solving and decision making skills.
· Comfortable working in a combination of office and field locations.
· Valid driver’s license with a clean driving abstract.
· Availability for work in remote areas and/or away from home base with long hours during the construction season.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Administration:
· Attend client and construction site meetings and assist with determination of project requirements
· Track the progress and quality of work being performed by Subconsultants and Contractors
· Review field inspection reports concerning ongoing projects
· Assist in the review of Contractor quotations to ensure that only fair and reasonable pricing is recommended for approval.
· Work with the designated Eagle Staff to review issues that may impact project delivery and/or client relations.
· Provide support with Contract Administration concerns, clarifications and construction specification interpretations
· Assist with preparation of Contract Tender packages
· Assist with Design and Final Detail reviews for accuracy and correctness
· Assist with utility coordination, complete project tracking of adjustments and review costs relative to accepted Quotes
Environmental:
· Determine the Environmental requirements for road construction projects.
· Co-ordination with Environmental and Geotechnical sub-consultants and review applicable project assessments and Final reports, obtain necessary environmental approvals and develop Tender documents associated with this work.
· Supporting staff regarding environmental legislation with respect to preliminary project reviews, and highway construction projects including development of borrow sources.
· Review environmental reports such as but not limited to; Migratory Bird reviews and borrow Pre and Post-Disturbance assessments.
· Review Borrow sources and ensure proper applications for Environmental and Historical Clearance and complete site inspections during construction and reclamation operations. Coordinate with applicable regulatory agencies to obtain Reclamation Certificates.
· Provide leadership and advice on environmental matters to ensure safe, efficient and timely delivery of projects
· Pit Management of Crown Aggregate Sources to include site inspections to ensure Pit operating conditions are adhered to and sites are being mined and reclaimed accordingly
Construction Supervision:
· Attend construction site meetings and provide leadership to Eagle staff onsite as necessary.
· Review Contractor TAS and ECO plans for both highway and bridge projects for acceptance and complete project site inspections to assess that contractors are in compliance with accepted plans
Supervise construction projects and assist with inspections for various project phases for deficiencies.
