About the Role:
We are seeking a dedicated Cook to join our Food Services team. This position works collaboratively with the full-time Cook and other kitchen staff, taking direction as appropriate while also working independently when required. The Cook supports our Meals on Wheels, Congregate Dining, and Organizational Catering programs and shares responsibility for planning, preparing, cooking, and serving nutritious, high-quality meals.
As part of a strong, team-focused kitchen, the Cook also helps coordinate daily kitchen operations and works closely with kitchen helpers and volunteers to maintain an efficient, supportive, and positive work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, prepare, cook, and serve nutritious meals in accordance with established quality and service standards
- Order quality food, ingredients, and supplies within an established budget
- Coordinate meal preparation and food service for two locations
- Coordinate and provide direction to kitchen helpers and volunteers
- Communicate instructions clearly, respectfully, and patiently when working with staff, kitchen helpers, and volunteers
- Support Meals on Wheels and Congregate Dining by ensuring meals are prepared, portioned, and served in accordance with program standards and client needs
- Support food preparation and service for occasional organizational events, including board meetings, volunteer appreciation events, and other corporate or community functions
- Maintain a clean, organized,
and efficient kitchen while supporting established food quality and safety standards
Requirements:
- Safe Food Handling Certification
- Clear Vulnerable Sector Police Check
- Valid driver's license; reliable transportation
- Must have a minimum of two years’ experience in the meal preparation field
- Knowledge of menu planning
- Knowledge of developing recipes including cost management
- Knowledge of large-scale food preparation processes.
- Knowledge of restrictive diets and related food preparation
- Knowledge of safety rules for kitchen equipment safety practices
- Knowledge of healthy eating guide as it applies for seniors
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and related office software
- Standard First Aid and CPR/AED Certifications
- Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.
- 22.5 hours per week (4.5 hours per day); Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday; morning shift
Compensation:
- Rate Range $19.43 - $21.85 per hour
Job Types: Part-time, Permanent Pay: $19.43-$21.85 per hour
Expected hours: 22.5 per week
