We are looking for someone who wants to learn, become better at their work, take on more responsibility, and eventually become capable of helping lead and run a restaurant.

At Motonobu Udon, we have a clear growth path:

3rd Cook → 2nd Cook → 1st Cook → Manager → General Manager

You can start at the 3rd Cook level and learn step by step. As your skills, judgment, leadership, and responsibilities grow, your position and pay can grow too.

ABOUT MOTONOBU UDON

Motonobu Udon is an independent Vancouver restaurant that has been recognized by the MICHELIN Guide.

We are not a kitchen where food simply arrives prepared and is reheated. Our team prepares our food in-house, and we care about quality, consistency, and serving food to our guests in the best possible condition.

We want people who take pride in doing good work — whether that means preparing something properly, improving a skill, helping the team, or making sure a hot dish reaches the guest hot.

THE GROWTH PATH

3rd Cook

Learn the fundamentals and consistently perform your assigned work to our restaurant standards.

2nd Cook

Become capable of preparing all items that have established recipes and standards.

1st Cook

Go beyond doing the work yourself. Learn to teach, guide, and help develop other team members while building the judgment, leadership, and responsibility needed for management.

Manager

Learn to manage day-to-day restaurant situations, make decisions within Manager authority, lead the team, interview candidates, participate in hiring decisions, and handle ordering and other operational responsibilities.

General Manager

Take broader responsibility for restaurant operations,



including areas such as hiring, staffing, inventory, payroll-related administration, the restaurant website, and social media.

Advancement is not based simply on how long you have worked here. It is based on what you can consistently do, the quality of your work, and the responsibility you are ready to take on.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are especially interested in someone who:

- Is willing to take on more responsibility as they become ready

You do not have to know everything when you start. What matters is that you want to learn.

PAY AND HOURS

- $18.25–$24.99 per hour within the Cook levels, depending on skills, responsibilities, and position
- Approximately 30–40 hours per week
- Full-time, permanent position
- Opportunities for further advancement into Manager and General Manager positions
