About Sunray Group
Sunray Group is a growing hospitality and real estate organization with a multi-entity portfolio. We are looking for a hands-on finance leader to join us as Corporate Financial Controller, reporting to the CFO / Finance Director.
About the Role
You will be accountable for the integrity of our financial reporting across the portfolio, strengthen our controls and systems, and help shape the financial strategy behind our growth. You will work directly with the CFO and executive team, lead and develop the finance function, and be a trusted partner on performance, risk and opportunity.
Duties
Financial Reporting & Compliance
- Lead the preparation, review and sign-off of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements under IFRS/ASPE
- Own the month-end and year-end close and ensure deadlines are consistently met
- Ensure timely, accurate completion of statutory filings and regulatory requirements
- Prepare lender and stakeholder reporting, including covenant compliance
- Continuously improve financial reporting systems and processes
Accounting Operations
- Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations and financial analysis
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger functions
- Design, implement and maintain internal controls and accounting policies
- Ensure accurate revenue recognition, accruals and deferrals
Budgeting, Forecasting & Strategic Finance
- Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process with department heads and property leadership
- Deliver variance analysis with clear, actionable insights
- Prepare executive-level dashboards and present results to senior management
Tax & Treasury
- Coordinate corporate income tax compliance and planning
- Manage HST/GST filings and provincial tax compliance
- Oversee cash flow management, banking relationships and treasury functions
- Support payroll tax compliance and benefits administration
- Assist with transfer pricing documentation and international tax matters, where applicable
Systems & Process Improvement
- Drive automation to streamline accounting processes and reduce manual work
- Evaluate and lead the implementation of new financial systems and technology
- Maintain accounting procedures and documentation
- Ensure data integrity across financial systems and lead cross-functional integration projects
Required
- Canadian CPA designation (completed or in progress)
- 8–12 years of progressive finance and accounting experience
- Working knowledge of Canadian accounting standards (IFRS/ASPE) and Canadian tax compliance (corporate, HST/GST, payroll)
- 2+ years in a supervisory or management role leading a team
- Proven experience with month-end close, financial statement preparation and audit coordination
- Strong background in budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, financial modeling)
- Familiarity with financial reporting software
- Excellent written and verbal communication, including presenting to senior management
Assets
- Big 4 or public accounting experience with hospitality, real estate or construction clients
- Experience with multi-entity or portfolio-level operations
- Knowledge of US GAAP for cross-border operations
- Experience with financial system implementations or upgrades
- Hotel franchise accounting and brand standards experience
- Understanding of internal controls and SOX compliance
- Additional international accounting designations (for example, CA)
