Job Title: Data Scientist
Job Classification: Full-time Exempt
Reports To: Strategic Advisor, PRCI Data Institute

Location: Canada (preferred); remote
Position Summary
Under the auspices of the PRCI Data Institute, the Data Scientist facilitates research project workspaces and data systems, maintains and improves the integrity of industry incident databases, and serves as a trusted "data concierge" who enables secure, seamless sharing of sensitive data across research initiatives. The position is responsible for driving advanced analytics and AI-enabled tools that help members identify and prioritize the research most relevant to improving safety and operational efficiency.
Essential Job Function
Research Project Facilitation
- Learn the needs of research projects and pilots, and provision the appropriate type of workspace for each
- Train vendors on improved data processes and on how to use Microsoft Fabric
- Develop standardized workspace provisioning templates for common project types
- Support project teams through data integration processes and troubleshoot issues as they arise
- Enable analytics and reporting appropriate to each project's needs
Improve Safety Performance and Operational Efficiency
- Update and perform QA/QC on incident and performance data sets, including PHMSA, CER, EGIG,
and Australia/New Zealand sources
- Perform and continually evolve insightful analytics on safety and operational performance
- Develop the Annual Report for incident data
Data Concierge
- Act as a data concierge, making data sharing across member companies and research teams more seamless and trustworthy
- Serve as the main administrator for sensitive data, including blind and secure workspace
Advanced Data Analytics Initiatives
- Perform testing to ensure the quality and reliability of data and analytics outputs
- Build optimization strategies and scenarios that show which pipelines benefit from which shared research
- Support the organization's AI strategy, helping members find the research most relevant to their optimization needs
Qualifications: Education & Experience
- MSc degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
- 8+ years of experience in data science, data analytics, or a related role
- Proficiency with SQL and a scripting language such as Python or R
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, or comparable data platform and business intelligence tools
- Experience with data governance and data security practices, including handling sensitive or restricted data sets
- Familiarity with pipeline safety and regulatory data standards (e.g., PHMSA, CER, EGIG) is a plus
- Experience supporting or building AI/ML-enabled tools is a plus
Knowledge & Skills Required
· Strong communication and training skills, with the ability to teach vendors and non-technical stakeholders new data processes and tools
· Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills for data integration and workspace issues
· Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively and efficiently across internal research teams and member companies to native and non-native speakers
· High attention to detail, particularly for QA/QC of regulatory and safety data sets
· Must have the highest level of decorum and confidentiality with sensitive and blinded data
· Ability to translate data and analytics into insights that support optimization decisions
· Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deliver projects within tight deadline
· Must have advanced proficiency with Microsoft Suite including Outlook, Teams, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as Adobe Acrobat. AI proficiency preferred.

· Travel is required domestically and internationally approximately 10% annually.
