As the backbone of Canada's financial ecosystem, Interac facilitates over 20 million transactions daily, supported by trusted partnerships with government and financial institutions. Reporting to the Leader, Product Core, Money Movement, the Development, Lead is responsible for providing technical leadership and hands‑on development expertise for Interac's Money Movement platforms. The role leads the design, development, modernization, and support of enterprise‑scale applications built using Java, Spring Boot, Hibernate, REST APIs, SOAP/Web Services, and AWS cloud technologies.
Technical Leadership
Provide technical leadership for Java‑based application development initiatives. Define and promote software engineering best practices, coding standards, and design patterns. Conduct architecture reviews, code reviews, and technical design reviews. Mentor developers and foster a culture of engineering excellence and continuous improvement. Support technical decision‑making and technology roadmap development.
Application Development
Java SOAP/Web Services Design and implement high‑performance database solutions and persistence layers.
Integrate with financial institutions, payment networks, and enterprise platforms. Participate in agile planning, estimation, and sprint execution.
Drive automated testing, CI/CD, and deployment best practices. Support release planning and production deployments. Lead root cause analysis and remediation activities for critical incidents. Improve application observability, monitoring, and operational readiness. 8+ years of software development experience. ~3+ years leading technical teams or major development initiatives.
Experience working within Agile development teams. Expert‑level Java development. ~ Strong Hibernate/JPA implementation experience. ~ Experience developing and consuming SOAP/Web Services. ~ Oracle Database ~ PostgreSQL ~ SQL optimization and performance tuning ~ Data modeling and schema design ~ AWS cloud services ~ CI/CD pipelines ~ Git‑based source control ~ Docker and containerized deployments ~ Ability to simplify complex technical concepts for business stakeholders. ~ Proven mentoring and coaching capabilities. ~ The hiring range for this position is $145,000 to $160,000 , and you will also be eligible for our short‑term incentive plan.
