Position Overview The Educator’s Assistant works in consultation with the Registered Early Childhood Educator to assist with the program delivery of the Links2Care School-Age program. The Educator’s Assistant is responsible for supporting a fun and age-appropriate school-age program for children in a group setting in accordance with the Child Care and Early Years Act, Municipal guidelines and the policies and procedures of Links2Care Children’s programs. As an employee of Links2Care, the Educator’s Assistant will actively demonstrate Links2Care Values and will promote and support the Mission and Vision of the Agency.
Role and Responsibilities
- Comply with agency policies, standards, guidelines, and procedures, including financial and human resource protocols.
- Maintain confidentiality of all agency documentation and client information in accordance with Links2Care policies, the Child Care and Early Years Act, PHIPA, and PIPEDA.
- Represent the mission, values, and philosophy of the agency in the community and professional settings.
- Implement the Links2Kids School-Age program in alignment with the Child Care and Early Years Act, municipal guidelines, and internal policies.
- Maintain a secure and healthy program and working environment.
- Accurately collect and maintain client information and complete required documentation (e.g., reports, attendance, schedules, health and safety).
- The Educational Assistant position is physically demanding and requires a significant amount of time standing, squatting, kneeling, sitting or walking in the school.
- The assistant is expected to participate in student activities and must regularly lift or carry materials.
- The educational assistant may be required to lift items up to 22 kilograms (50 lbs).
- Sometimes heavier lifting may be required to help children move in and out of wheelchairs, on and off of play areas etc.
- EAs may also use mechanical lifts for students and operate related equipment on an occasional basis.
- Educational Assistants require sufficient vision and hearing to perform related job duties.
- Some of the unpleasant aspects of the work environment are: contact with infectious diseases, noise level, dealing with uncooperative, difficult and demanding students.
- Account for any program-related funds as assigned.
- Participate effectively in staff meetings, team discussions, and regular check-ins with the Program Leader.
- Maintain positive relationships with networks, professional organizations, and service providers.
- Provide information and resources about programs and support services available throughout Halton Region.
- Attend approved conferences, workshops, and in-service events.
- Assist in training and mentoring students, new staff, and volunteers.
- Set annual performance and professional development goals.
- Provide basic First Aid as needed.
- Report all accidents, injuries, and occurrences in writing.
- Maintain records as per agency standards and provide reports as required.
- Actively promote Links2Care programs and services through community events, outreach, fundraising, and marketing activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Secondary school diploma. Post-secondary education in childcare related field preferred.
- Experience working with children and families in a group setting.
- Valid First Aid/CPR Certification.
- Must have up to date immunization and record of immunization as required by the Ministry of Education and Child Care and Early Years Act.
- Completion of a satisfactory Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Sector Screen prior to employment and throughout employment as requested by Links2Care is required.
- Employees who drive on behalf of Links2Care for work related purposes must possess and provide proof of a valid Ontario driver’s license and a minimum of $1,000,000 liability insurance on their vehicle.
