Pentalift Equipment Corporation – Puslinch, Ontario
Pentalift Equipment Corporation manufactures loading dock and industrial material handling equipment for customers throughout North America.
We are looking for an experienced Electrical Panel Shop Supervisor to lead our electrical control panel assembly department.
This is a hands-on shop-floor leadership position. The successful candidate will be responsible for organizing work, supporting and supervising employees, maintaining production flow and quality, and resolving electrical and control-panel issues as they arise.
We are particularly interested in someone with strong practical experience in industrial control panel assembly, wiring and troubleshooting, along with the ability to lead and develop a small production team.
Primary Responsibilities
- Plan, schedule and assign work within the electrical panel shop.
- Supervise, support and develop panel builders and electrical assembly employees.
- Monitor workload and adjust priorities to meet production schedules.
- Continuously review and improve panel manufacturing methods, assembly sequence, workstation layout, tooling and work practices to reduce labour time, eliminate unnecessary steps, improve productivity and maintain or improve quality.
- Work directly with panel builders on the shop floor to test, implement and standardize improved manufacturing and assembly methods.
- Review shop orders, electrical schematics and drawings and resolve production or technical questions.
- Oversee the assembly and wiring of AC and DC control panels used on hydraulic and material handling equipment.
- Ensure completed panels and electrical assemblies meet drawings, specifications, quality requirements and applicable standards.
- Test and troubleshoot control panels, electrical systems, sensors and related equipment.
- Provide hands-on assistance with difficult wiring, testing and troubleshooting problems.
- Maintain required production, inspection and CSA-related records and product identification.
- Coordinate electrical material requirements and maintain appropriate inventory levels.
- Train new and existing employees in panel assembly, wiring practices, testing procedures and protected work methods.
- Maintain a safe, organized and efficient department.
- Work closely with Engineering, Production and other departments to resolve manufacturing issues.
- Assist with plant or production-equipment electrical troubleshooting when required.
- Assist with CSA and ESA matters and documentation where applicable.
- Participate in hiring, employee performance management and other supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications
- Several years of hands-on experience building and troubleshooting industrial electrical control panels.
- Strong ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and equipment drawings.
- Good knowledge of industrial controls, relays, contactors, motor starters, sensors and related components.
- Strong electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Previous supervisory, team-lead, lead-hand or senior panel-building experience preferred.
- Ability to organize work and manage changing production priorities.
- Good communication skills and ability to work effectively with Production,
Engineering and other departments.
- Comfortable working directly with employees on the manufacturing floor.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and implement practical improvements to manufacturing or electrical panel assembly methods.
- Basic to intermediate computer skills.
Experience with PLCs, logic relays, hydraulic equipment, industrial machinery and CSA-certified control panels would be an asset. An Industrial Electrician 442A license or other relevant electrical trade certification is an asset, but is not required for a candidate with strong control-panel manufacturing experience.
Position Focus
This is not primarily an office-based management position or a plant-maintenance electrician position.
The successful candidate will spend most of the day in and around the panel shop, organizing work, assisting employees, checking quality, troubleshooting problems and actively reviewing and improving how electrical panels are manufactured. A key part of the role is identifying more efficient assembly methods and then working directly with employees to implement and standardize those improvements.
We are looking for someone who combines strong practical panel-building knowledge with the ability to lead people and keep production moving efficiently.
