The Major Loss

Adjuster for Casualty is responsible for handling various types of complex commercial casualty claims including class actions, large property damage claims, product liability recall claims and other general liability claims and must operate in accordance within all operational/Best Practices guidelines. This would include determining coverage, drafting reservation of rights and denial letters, attendance at mediation / settlement conference and instructing independent adjusters and attorneys in the negotiation and settlement of claims. Claims are primarily in Canadian venues, with a small portion of US and worldwide exposures.

Review casualty claims in conjunction with policy wordings to determine coverage Provide instruction to legal counsel to bring about appropriate resolution of claim Ensure compliance by legal counsel of our litigation guidelines Participate in mediation/ADR process to bring about resolution of claim Issue payments within appropriate time frame Inform management of all complaints, large losses, coverage issues, etc.

Holds current AMF Commercial License Fluency in both English and French (verbal and written) is essential, as a significant portion of underwriting handled by the employee will occur outside of Quebec Minimum 10 years handling commercial casualty claims Ability to make decisions and give directions to adjusters and/or counsel Proficient computer skills to navigate paperless claim file system Travel: Approximately 10% to attend mediations/ADR.
