About the role
Fire Protection Project Technical Lead is responsible for leading and coordinating industrial, commercial, institutional and specialized fire protection projects from opportunity identification and feasibility through engineering, design coordination, construction support, commissioning and project closeout. The role combines project management, technical coordination, client engagement, business development, estimating and operational oversight while working closely with owners, engineering firms, insurers, brokers, AHJs, contractors and internal teams
Responsibilities
Project Management & Execution
- Manage multiple fire protection projects from initiation through completion.
- Develop execution strategies, schedules, milestones, deliverables and resource plans.
- Lead kickoff, coordination, progress and wrap-up meetings and track action items.
- Act as the primary liaison between the engineering design team, clients, consultants and other project stakeholders.
- Monitor project scope, identify changes, price change orders and obtain approvals.
- Track project budgets, forecasts, productivity, risks and schedules.
- Coordinate project documentation, document control and closeout packages.
- Review invoices, billing procedures and accounts receivable requirements.
- Liaison between engineering design teams and clients
- Reporting on team progress and scheduling work going forward with deadlines
Technical & Engineering Coordination
- Coordinate development of fire protection and fire detection system solutions.
- Prepare and review design criteria, reports and technical specifications.
- Review drawings, , MTOs, cable schedules and cause-and-effect matrices.
- Respond to technical queries from clients, owners and consulting engineers.
- Support the design team with code consultation, including national and local building codes, NFPA standards, and all applicable fire alarm codes and regulations. Ensure compliance insurance requirements and contract documents.
- Coordinate permit applications and stakeholder approvals.
Design & Construction Support
- Support preparation and review of detailed design drawings and layouts.
- Collaborate with designers, engineers and technical officers.
- Participate in constructability reviews and construction planning.
- Attend site meetings and supervise technical project requirements as required.
- Coordinate site inspections, audits, surveys, flow testing and commissioning support.
Business Development & Client Relations
- Identify new project opportunities within industrial sectors.
- Build relationships with owners, brokers, underwriters, consultants and contractors.
- Prepare proposals, submissions, RFP responses and presentations.
- Maintain prospect and client contact databases.
- Represent Gisborne professionally at meetings and industry events.
Financial & Operational Responsibilities
- Assist with revenue planning, cost budgets and project estimates.
- Evaluate project financial performance and cost effectiveness.
- Ensure accurate cost coding, forecasting and project reporting.
- Support decisions regarding subcontracted versus self-performed work.
- Ensure full recovery of contract revenues, changes and credits.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience managing fire protection engineering or Fire Code Consulting
- Post-secondary education in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management or related discipline.
- CFPS and/or P.Eng. designation considered an asset.
- Experience with CRM/Salesforce considered an asset.
- Strong knowledge of fire protection engineering, design, installation and maintenance.
- Advanced Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Autodesk applications; Revit and AutoSprink preferred.
- Excellent communication, leadership, budgeting and stakeholder management skills.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent Pay: $80,000.00-$120,000.00 per year

Experience:
