General Laborer

Custom Metal Contracting is family owned & operated and located in Calgary, Alberta. Due to our continued growth, Custom Metal Contracting is looking for laborers for our manufacturing shop. We seek individuals who are highly motivated, productive and who strive to achieve the highest quality results in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.

A suitable candidate would be capable of learning quickly, embrace the responsibility, take initiative and be collaborative with the team. Construction experience is an asset.

Key Responsibilities

- Material Handling: Load, unload, and move sheet metal plates, coils, and finished products safely around the shop using carts or forklifts.
- Shop Maintenance: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment by sweeping, clearing scrap metal, and emptying waste bins.
- Fabrication Support: Assist machine operators with shearing, bending, and punching operations; deburr and grind sharp edges on cut metal parts.
- Assembly & Packing: Help bundle, wrap, and palletize finished ductwork or metal architectural components for delivery.

Qualifications & Skills

- Physical Fitness: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs consistently and stand for long periods in a manufacturing environment.
- Safety First Mindset: Strong awareness of workshop safety protocols and a commitment to wearing proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Reliability: Punctual, with a strong work ethic and a positive,



team-oriented attitude.
- Tool Literacy: Experience using basic hand and power tools (e.g., grinders, drills, tape measures) is a major asset.
- Assets (Not Required): A valid forklift certification or prior experience in a construction, manufacturing,

Qualifications/Requirements:

- Two or more years of construction experience beneficial.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to multi-task.
- Punctuality and strong work ethic are essential.
- Must be able to work independently.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Problem solving skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced setting.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting heavy material and tools repeatedly.
