Strategic Manager (Path to Director of Strategy)

Remote, must work EST hours | Full-time | $120,000 base + commission (around $140,000 OTE)

The client is a growth and content marketing agency for B2B companies. It has two specialist departments, Strategy and Account Management, and they work together on every client. As search moves from traditional SEO towards generative and answer engine optimisation (GEO/AEO), the client is changing what it offers to match.

Its content strategies are built to win in classic search and in AI answer engines like ChatGPT. Clients are B2B and mostly SaaS/tech, not high-volume B2C or ecommerce.

Why this role exists The strategy team is growing faster than its leadership can support. Right now, the Director of Strategy holds senior oversight for too many accounts, and neither of the team's two people leaders has room to take on more direct reports. This hire will take over a book of client oversight and lead a group of junior strategists.

That frees leadership to focus on the bigger picture and lets the team grow. There's a clear path to Director of Strategy and a seat on the Senior Leadership Team (SLT).

What you'll do

Own client oversight: You'll be the senior point of contact for a book of business worth around $2M. You'll handle escalations, hold the relationship with each client's budget holder and support upsells and expansion. New accounts will be added to your book as they come in.

Lead the strategy work: You'll host strategy presentations, sell clients on the direction you recommend and defend that advice when clients push back. You'll oversee GEO and content strategy delivery across your accounts and have ready answers when the internal team brings you problems.

Lead and develop people: You'll manage 3 to 5 junior strategists. That means writing real career development plans (PDPs)



and helping each person grow from specialist to strategist to senior strategist.

Work with Account Management: Every client also has an Account Manager, who owns contracts, upselling and coordination between teams. You'll work closely with each of them.

What success looks like

First 3 months: Learn our work fully, including how it's delivered and how it's sold. You'll host client calls and give strategy presentations yourself, so you can later teach others to do them.

Months 3 to 6: Take on your oversight book and start leading people. Close at least one expansion or upsell on an account in your book, and see one team member complete their PDP.

Months 6 to 12: Step back from day-to-day client work and into executive oversight. Hit your targets for account expansion, book value growth and client retention.

Around 12 months: Move into the Director of Strategy role and join the SLT for quarterly and annual planning.

You report directly to the Director of Strategy throughout, including after your promotion.

What we're looking for

- Hands-on experience building content strategies for GEO/AEO. You've moved beyond legacy SEO, and AI visibility is a measure of success you already use and talk about.
- Content strategy experience, not technical SEO.
- Client experience in B2B, ideally SaaS/tech. If you've only worked in B2C or ecommerce, this role won't be a good fit.
- Confidence on client calls. You can present a strategy, defend your recommendation and stand your ground with a senior stakeholder.
- Real examples of managing and growing a direct report, plus a strong appetite for people leadership.
- The ability to move, respond and learn quickly. The client works at pace.
- Agency experience because you'll be switching between many clients.
- Reliable working hours that overlap with EST. You can live anywhere.
