Registered Nurse – Transitional Graduate Nurse Step into your nursing career with confidence. Whether you're drawn to the energy of urban centers or the close-knit feel of rural communities, opportunities await in our Graduate Nurse Transition Pilot Program (GNTPP).You’ll be paired with experienced peers who guide you every step of the way, helping you build your skills, competence, and confidence in a safe and supportive environment.
Phase 1 - Enhanced Orientation: You will be in supernumerary (not counted in staffing numbers) and paired with a Clinical Guide (experienced RN) to develop and complete a personalized learning plan. The duration of this phase is flexible, based on your individual learning and transition needs.After transitioning to independent practice, you will be required to apply for available vacant positions of no less than 0.5 FTE in a similar practice setting, ideally within the same unit, program, site, or office. As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being.
In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the organization.PLEASE NOTE:
Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour.
Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.
Classification: SN Registered Nurse NGT Union: United Nurses of Alberta Unit and Program: Multi-Site: At (UNA only) Temporary Employee Class: Temp F/T Perks Temporary End Date: 31-AUG-2027 Length of Shift in weeks: 12 Shifts per cycle: 40 Days Off: As Per Rotation Classification: SN Registered Nurse NGT Union: United Nurses of Alberta Unit and Program: Multi-Site: At (UNA only) Temporary Employee Class: Temp F/T Benefits Temporary End Date: 31-AUG-2027 Hours per Shift: 11.08 Length of Shift in weeks: 12 Shifts per cycle: 40 Shift Pattern: Days, Nights, Weekends Days Off: As Per Rotation Required Qualifications: Completion of an accredited nursing education program.Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification.Eligibility is restricted to Graduate Nurses, Graduate Psychiatric Nurses, Registered Nurses and Registered Psychiatric Nurses who have graduated within 12 months prior to the anticipated start date of the program and who have not yet obtained a regular position with AHS, Covenant Health,
or Recovery Alberta.Candidates selected for an interview must review the UNA Letter of Understanding #29 - Graduate Nurse Transition Pilot Program prior to the interview.
Additional Required Qualifications: New hires accepting Regular Full-time UNA positions located north of the 57th Parallel are eligible to receive a Recruitment Initiative payment of $2,500. This payment is non-pensionable and is pro-rated for Regular Part-time employment.In addition to a competitive rate of pay and excellent benefits, AHS currently offers:This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.Retention Payment (annual maximum of $2,500) for Regular Full-time employment. This payment is non-pensionable and is pro-rated for Regular Part-time employment.Additional incentives such as temporary housing (up to 3 months) and relocation assistance, based on eligibility and availability.Permanent and temporary employees working in excess of one (1) year whose work sites are above the 57th parallel are also eligible to receive an annual reimbursement (maximum of $1,235) for one (1) round trip, departing from a location above the 57th parallel, to any destination within Alberta.
