Job Summary
We are currently seeking a Health and Safety Specialist to join our team. You will provide health and safety support to the malic and fumaric acid manufacturing operations as well as the maleic anhydride production operation at the Stoney Creek sites.
Reporting to the Director, Health Safety and Environmental (HSE), the Health and Safety Specialist performs a range of duties supporting operations activities at our Stoney Creek sites. You will play a pivotal role in driving Health and Safety continuous performance improvements across operations, as well as working with operations teams to ensure facilities are in compliance with all relevant Health and Safety legal requirements.
Major Job Functions
· Establish and maintain effective Health and Safety programs and process.
· Partner with site management teams regarding Health and Safety strategies, priorities, risks, activities,
and projects necessary to attain business goals.
· Provide technical assistance and guidance in risk-related matters, including ergonomics, industrial hygiene, safety, environmental, incident investigation, and occupational health processes.
· Assist with the response to regulatory agency inquiries and reporting obligations.
· Provide support and subject matter expertise for events (e.g., regulatory agency inquiries, significant incidents, business resiliency).
· Assist site management teams in incident investigation and identification of appropriate and effective corrective actions.
· Conduct routine Health and Safety inspections with site management including hazard assessments, reviewing incident investigations and root cause determination, performing HSE audits, and providing recommendations to the Operations Manager, driving continuous improvement.
· Assist with the response to regulatory agency inquiries and reporting obligations.
· Support environmental program requirements to manage waste, spills, unplanned releases, and meet environmental regulatory requirements.
· Support and deliver effective Health and Safety training from frontline workers to senior management
· Educate management teams on their Health and Safety roles and responsibilities. Help foster a diverse workforce.
Education and Experience
- Post-secondary degree in a field related to Health and Safety, preferably Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or Health Sciences in Workplace Health and Wellness.
- Post-secondary certifications, such as CET or similar, is an asset.
- 5+ years of Health and Safety experience in a manufacturing environment with an emphasis on compliance.
- Eligible for professional licensing such as CRSP.
- Detailed working knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act and its Regulations (Industrial Establishments; and Construction) and Environmental Protection Act and its Regulations (Air Quality, Waste Management).
- Proven ability to coach, train, and mentor to a variety of audiences (frontline employees, senior management, and head office staff).
- Ability to work, collaborate and negotiate with government officials, consultants, and other third-party stakeholders.
- Experience in Health and Safety management program and procedure development.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Requires travel between two sites.
Pay: $80,000.00-$100,000.00 per year
