This opportunity is with the Strathcona Community Hospital, Emergency Department. This facility offers a 24/7 Emergency Department, and a variety of Ambulatory, Laboratory, and Diagnostic Imaging services.
The Health Care
Aide (HCA) works within their scope of practice to provide care to emergency patients across the lifespan including assisting with activities of daily living and contributing to patient comfort and safety. The HCA also assists with other unit tasks that contribute to patient flow and efficiency. These services are provided under supervision and direction of the Register Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), or regulated healthcare skilled in accordance with their designated colleges’ supervision guidelines.
The type of supervision required (direct or indirect) will depend on the complexity of the task or procedure being assigned, the stability of the patient and the skill level of the HCA performing the task. As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multidisciplinary team, providing personal assistance by supporting activities of daily living and delivering support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this role, you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers across the continuum of care in home, community, and health care facilities.
You will assist nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety needs; and observe and report on patients' mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under the supervision of a regulated health professional, you will assist in maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors, while supporting effective communication with patients and health care professionals.Until a new hire provides proof of HCA certification,
they will be paid at the uncertified pay grade in accordance with the AUPE AUX Collective Agreement.

Additional Required Qualifications: Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).Good command of the English language.Ability to work as part of a team and with minimal supervision.Active registration with the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory.
Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to recent experience working in an emergency environment.Preference will be given to candidates with Connect Care experience in an ASAP environment.
