Heavy Duty Mechanic

Overview

We are seeking a skilled Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our transportation company’s maintenance team. This role is essential to keeping our fleet of commercial trucks, trailers, and related equipment safe, reliable, and ready for the road. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical knowledge, hands-on experience with heavy-duty diesel trucks and industrial repairs, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Experience in a fleet, dealership, or commercial trucking environment is highly desirable.

Duties

- Diagnose and repair a wide range of heavy-duty commercial trucks, trailers, and related equipment
- Perform routine preventive maintenance such as oil changes, filter replacements, brake inspections, and system checks
- Utilize diagnostic tools, schematics, and technical manuals to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and air-brake systems
- Conduct welding and fabrication tasks as needed for repairs or modifications
- Operate power tools, hand tools, and shop equipment safely and efficiently
- Test repaired vehicles and equipment to ensure proper functioning before returning them to service
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts used, and maintenance performed




- Assist with assembly or installation of new components when required
- Ensure all work complies with DOT regulations, company safety standards, and industry best practices

Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Heavy Duty / Diesel Mechanic working on commercial trucks or heavy equipment
- Fleet, dealership, or transportation industry experience is a plus (Cummins, Detroit, Paccar, or similar brands preferred)
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, electrical systems, air brakes, hydraulics, schematics, and welding techniques
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and work in a fast-paced shop environment
- Experience with Class 7–8 trucks, trailers, and related commercial transportation equipment
- Excellent problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail
- Good communication skills and a customer-service mindset when interacting with drivers and team members
- Ability to work independently while strictly following safety protocols
