About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and trusted Human Resources Generalist to join our team at Au Château. In this role, you will be the day-to-day face of Human Resources for the Home, a go-to point of contact for staff and leadership on employee and labour relations, workplace investigations, performance management, health and safety, and Return-to-Work (RTW) case management.
Working under the general supervision of the Administrator, you will partner closely with the management team on recruitment, onboarding, and attendance management to deliver coordinated, full-cycle Human Resources service to the Home. You will be expected to model exemplary professional behaviour, exercise sound and impartial judgment in all employee relations matters, and serve as an ambassador for the Home’s values and mission in every interaction with residents, families, staff, and the community. Fluency in both English (required) and French is an asset, as this role regularly serves staff, residents, and families in both languages.
What You Will Do
Your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Investigate and respond to employee concerns, complaints, and grievances in accordance with the collective agreement, Home policy, and applicable legislation, tracking each case through to resolution
- Lead workplace investigations into allegations of harassment, discrimination, or misconduct, and prepare findings and recommendations for the Administrator
- Coach and support managers and supervisors on performance management, progressive discipline, and difficult conversations with staff
- Own and manage the Return-to-Work (RTW) program, including accommodation planning, modified work arrangements, and liaison with treating practitioners and WSIB
- Act as Lead of the Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC): coordinate meetings, prepare minutes and reports, and follow up on corrective actions
- Manage WSIB claims from initial reporting through resolution, including correspondence with the Board and representation at Appeals Hearings as required
- Support recruitment, interviews, and onboarding for Home leadership and Human Resources-related roles, including postings, reference checks, and offer correspondence
- Develop, maintain, and communicate Human Resources policies and the HR policy manual,
ensuring alignment with legislation and the collective agreement
- Counsel employees on work-related concerns, maintain a recall system, and support Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) referrals as needed
- Administer the attendance management program, including monitoring, recording, and following up on absenteeism trends
- Interpret and administer employee benefit programs and respond to staff inquiries regarding coverage and entitlements
- Assist all levels of management in interpreting and complying with applicable labour legislation and the collective agreement
- Research, prepare documentation for, and actively participate in collective bargaining negotiations on behalf of the Home
- Conduct exit interviews for departing staff and analyze themes to inform retention strategies
- Maintain accurate and confidential Human Resources records and prepare employment statistics and reports as required
- Support staff development and education, including orientation, in-service training, and coordination of student and practicum placements
- Serve on committees as assigned, and liaise with community agencies, educational institutions, and professional Human Resources networks
Working Conditions We want you to come prepared and confident. Here is what to expect in this role:
- Primarily sedentary, office-based work, with regular movement throughout the Home to attend meetings, conduct investigations, and liaise with staff across all departments
- Monday to Friday, standard daytime office hours, with occasional evenings and weekends required for meetings, hearings, investigations, or urgent matters
- Office environment within a long-term care Home, with regular interaction with staff, residents, families, union representatives, and external agencies
- Regular exposure to highly sensitive and confidential employee, resident, and labour relations information; strict discretion is required at all times
- Regular involvement in difficult conversations, including discipline, grievances, investigations, and return-to-work planning; emotional resilience and professional composure are essential
- Fast-paced workplace with frequent, competing priorities and interruptions; strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize calmly are required
- Regular use of HRIS/payroll systems, standard office equipment, and computer applications
What We Are Looking For The successful candidate will bring the following qualifications and attributes:
Required Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or Health Administration
- Minimum of three (3) years of progressive Human Resources generalist experience, preferably in a health care or long-term care setting, including experience with labour relations, workplace investigations, and performance management
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a leadership/supervisory capacity
- Bilingual in English (required) and French (asset) verbal and written proficiency
- A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) required prior to hire and as requested thereafter
- Proof of immunization or medical clearance as required by the Home’s occupational health policy
Assets / Preferred
- CHRP or CHRL designation
- Experience in a unionized health care or long-term care environment, including collective bargaining
- Familiarity with HRIS/payroll systems and standard office technology
