The MIABC is looking for an engaged, energetic and organized Human Resources Coordinator to join our Administration team.
Job Summary:
The Human Resources Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day delivery of the organization's human resources operations and serves as the first point of contact for employees and managers on routine HR matters. The Coordinator administers payroll and benefits, supports recruitment and onboarding, maintains HR records and policies, and helps ensure compliance with employment and health and safety requirements.
Job Functions:
- Administers and processes the payroll, including statutory remittances, records of employment, and year-end reporting.
- Administers the pension and group benefit plans, including enrolments, changes, and terminations; reviews coverage and rates.
- Drafts and updates human resources policies.
- Drafts and updates job descriptions and job postings.
- Assists with all phases of the recruitment process including drafting and posting job ads, screening applicants, coordinating interviews, and completing reference checks.
- Prepares offer and termination documentation and maintains employment agreements.
- Coordinates orientation and onboarding for new employees and conducts offboarding for departing staff.
- Supports health and safety compliance with WorkSafeBC, including incident reporting, claims,
and return-to-work coordination.
- Facilitates staff training by organizing and arranging educational seminars, workshops, and other professional development opportunities.
- Supports staff appreciation efforts by coordinating and facilitating staff events.
- Maintains compliance with relevant employment legislation (e.g., the Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code, WorkSafeBC regulations, and applicable privacy legislation) and internal risk-management practices.
- Stays current on legislative, industry, and organizational changes affecting human resources and employment practices.
- Follows and ensures compliance with the MIABC’s policies and procedures.
- Participates in Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and other internal committees as assigned.
- Cooperates and collaborates with other employees and members in a spirit of teamwork and collegiality.
- Promotes and represents the MIABC as a professional association.
- Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
Position Qualifications:
- Three to five years of progressive human resources experience.
- Post-secondary education in human resources or a related field; CPHR designation (or active candidacy) preferred.
- Hands-on experience administering payroll and group benefits. Experience with Ceridian PowerPay is an asset.
- Working knowledge of BC employment legislation and HR best practices.
- Proficiency with HRIS/payroll systems and Microsoft 365.
- Demonstrated discretion and sound judgment in handling confidential and sensitive information, including knowing when to escalate a matter.
- Strong interpersonal skills and excellent written and verbal communication.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and deadlines with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
