High Voltage Cable Termination Technician

Allstar Construction is looking for an experienced High Voltage Cable Termination Technician to support our underground electrical distribution projects throughout Edmonton and Area.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience completing medium-voltage primary cable terminations, particularly on 15 kV and 25 kV underground distribution systems, and will support projects constructed to EPCOR and FortisAlberta requirements.

Responsibilities

- Complete primary cable terminations on underground electrical distribution systems.
- Complete terminations on EPCOR and FortisAlberta projects in accordance with the applicable utility standards and procedures.
- Install and terminate primary elbows and associated components at transformers, switching cubicles and other distribution equipment.
- Shape, prepare, terminate and identify primary cables.
- Complete grounding and bonding associated with primary cable terminations.
- Work with 200A and 600A dead-front distribution equipment.
- Ensure terminations are completed using utility-approved materials, hardware and procedures.
- Coordinate with utility representatives, inspectors and field personnel during termination inspections, witnessing and energization preparation.
- Assist with VLF cable testing, equipment testing and ground-grid testing as required.
- Review power plans, schematics and utility construction standards.
- Complete required termination, testing and project closeout documentation.




- Ensure all work complies with applicable EPCOR, FortisAlberta, AEUC, OHS and company safety requirements.

Required Qualifications Candidates must have significant medium/high-voltage cable termination experience and hold an Alberta-recognized trade qualification applicable to the work, such as:

- Journeyperson Powerline Technician;
- Journeyperson Power Systems Electrician; or
- Journeyperson / Red Seal Electrician with demonstrated medium/high-voltage termination experience.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate previous experience completing 15 kV and/or 25 kV primary cable terminations. The successful candidate must be capable of meeting the applicable EPCOR and FortisAlberta qualification, experience and approval requirements for the work being performed.

Preferred Experience

- 5+ years of related medium-voltage termination experience.
- Previous EPCOR and/or FortisAlberta project experience.
- 15 kV and 25 kV underground distribution systems.
- 200A load-break elbows.
- 600A dead-break terminations.
- Pad-mounted transformers.
- Single-phase and three-phase switching cubicles.
- Primary cable preparation and termination kits.
- VLF cable testing.
- Ground-grid testing.
- Underground residential,



commercial and industrial distribution construction.
- Reading utility power plans, schematics and construction standards.
- Preparing installations for utility inspection and energization.

What We’re Looking For We are looking for someone who can take ownership of the primary cable termination and testing portion of our underground power projects.

The ideal candidate is an experienced field tradesperson who understands medium-voltage distribution construction, can work independently, has solid attention to detail and is comfortable coordinating directly with utility representatives and inspectors.

This position will support Allstar Construction in expanding our in-house capabilities for EPCOR, FortisAlberta and other utility distribution work.

Location

Edmonton and surrounding areas, Alberta.

Travel to project sites throughout the greater Edmonton region and surrounding FortisAlberta service areas will be required.
