Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician (On-Road & Off-Road)
Otis Excavating is seeking a skilled, motivated, and safety-focused Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician (HET) to join our growing team. We are looking for an experienced technician to perform maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on a diverse fleet of construction equipment, highway dump trucks, and trailers. Exceptional 3rd or 4th Year Apprentices with relevant experience will also be considered.
The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical aptitude, excellent troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose, maintain, and repair heavy equipment, and highway trucks and trailers.
- Perform preventive maintenance and scheduled inspections to ensure equipment reliability and safety.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Maintain accurate service, inspection, and repair records.
- Work collaboratively with team members to ensure efficient turnaround times and high service standards.
- Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
- Assist with the maintenance and repair of off-road construction equipment as required.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician (HET) certification preferred.
- Consideration will be given to qualified 3rd or 4th Year Apprentices.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant industry experience.
- Experience with highway trucks and trailers would be an asset.
- CVIP certification or the ability to obtain certification would be an asset.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines,
electrical systems, hydraulics, and diagnostic procedures.
- Proficient in the use of diagnostic software and testing equipment.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills and a professional attitude.
· Capable of performing the role’s physical requirements, including lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Reliable, punctual, and safety conscious.
- Availability to work Monday through Friday, including Saturdays as required.
- Valid driver's license required. Class 3 or higher with Air Brake (Q) Endorsement is considered a strong asset.
- Experience working on off-road construction equipment is considered an asset.
