THE OPPORTUNITY
This is an entry-level position designed for a recent graduate of a civil engineering degree program who is registered, or eligible to register, as an Engineer-in-Training with Engineers and Geoscientists BC. You will join a multi-disciplinary team delivering projects for three distinct client streams:
◼ First Nations communities across Vancouver Island and beyond, including water distribution, sanitary sewer, pump stations, and community infrastructure
◼ Municipality clients, including detailed design and construction oversight for roads, utilities, and site servicing
◼ Private developers, including land development, site servicing, and subdivision design
Your work will span engineering design, calculations, CAD drafting, cost estimating, contract administration, and construction field reviews. You will gain broad exposure to complete project lifecycles while working under the mentorship and supervision of experienced professional engineers and technologists.
RESPONSIBILITIES
◼ Prepare engineering designs, drawings, calculations, reports, and technical documentation under the supervision of the Engineer of Record
◼ Produce and review detailed engineering drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D, including surfaces, alignments, profiles, sections, pipe networks, and corridors
◼ Assist with the design of water distribution, sanitary sewer, stormwater, road, site servicing, and land development infrastructure
◼ Research and apply municipal design criteria, engineering standards, bylaws, and CAD requirements across different jurisdictions
◼ Prepare cost estimates, quantity takeoffs, tender documents, and construction specifications
◼ Assist with contract administration and review construction activities for conformance with approved drawings, specifications, and contract documents
◼ Conduct field reviews of underground utilities and civil infrastructure, including storm, sanitary sewer, water, roads, and site servicing works
◼ Prepare and maintain field review reports, site journals, photographs, measurements, and field-testing documentation
◼ Coordinate with developers, contractors, consultants, public utilities, and other project stakeholders
◼ Liaise with municipal, regional, provincial, federal, and First Nations approval authorities as required
◼ Identify construction issues and provide timely feedback to contractors, clients, and senior project staff
WHAT YOU BRING
◼ Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university program
◼ Registration, or eligibility for registration, as an Engineer-in-Training with Engineers and
Geoscientists BC
◼ Previous experience in a civil engineering environment through co-op placements, internships, summer employment, or work terms is preferred
◼ Proficiency or coursework in AutoCAD and Civil 3D
◼ Familiarity with municipal infrastructure, land development, construction inspection, or contract administration is an asset
◼ Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, design standards, and construction documents
◼ Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
◼ Attention to detail and a commitment to accurate, high-quality work
◼ Strong written and verbal communication skills
◼ Ability to work cooperatively within a multidisciplinary team while managing assigned responsibilities and deadlines
◼ Class 5 driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle

Pay: $30.00-$40.00 per hour
