About Us
Bayview Seniors Community is a licensed long-term care home in White Rock, BC. Our team provides protected, compassionate, person-centred care to seniors, and valuable food is an important part of that care. We are looking for a reliable, hard-working Kitchen Assistant / Dishwasher to join our Food Services team.
Position Details
- Positions: [Part-time / Casual]
- Shifts: [e.g. 06:30–14:30 and 11:00–19:00], including weekends and holidays on a rotating schedule
- Reports to: [Food Services Manager / Cook]
Key Responsibilities
Kitchen Assistant
- Help the Cook prepare meals and snacks following the menu, standardized recipes and residents' diet orders.
- Prepare texture-modified foods and thickened fluids (e.g. minced, pureed) according to IDDSI standards and each resident's diet list.
- Plate, label and deliver meals and snacks to dining rooms, including room trays when required.
- Check resident allergies and special diets before serving, and follow the diet list carefully.
- Help serve meals in the dining room in a friendly and respectful way.
- Record fridge, freezer and food temperatures on the required logs.
- Receive, date, rotate (FIFO) and store food and supplies properly.
Dishwasher
- Wash and sanitize dishes, utensils, pots, pans and kitchen equipment.
- Operate the dishwashing machine. Check and record wash and rinse temperatures or sanitizer levels.
- Clean and sanitize kitchen surfaces, floors, carts, fridges and storage areas according to the cleaning schedule.
- Remove garbage and recycling, and keep the kitchen safe and tidy.
- Handle cleaning chemicals safely according to WHMIS and the Safety Data Sheets.
All staff
- Follow food safety,
infection prevention and control (including hand hygiene and outbreak procedures), and workplace health and safety policies.
- Treat residents with dignity and respect, and protect their privacy.
- Report any safety concern, equipment problem or resident concern to the supervisor.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- FOODSAFE Level 1 certificate, or willingness to get it before starting
- Previous kitchen or dishwashing experience, preferably in healthcare, long-term care or food service
- Basic English: able to read menus, labels and diet lists, and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Physically able to stand for long periods, and work in a fast-paced, hot kitchen
- Reliable, punctual, and works well in a team
- Kind and patient with seniors
Conditions of Employment As required for licensed care facilities in BC, all successful applicants must provide:
- A clear criminal record check completed through the BC Criminal Records Review Program
- Two professional references
- Proof of immunizations and tuberculosis (TB) screening, as required by provincial programs
- Copies of certificates (e.g. FOODSAFE, WHMIS if held)
New staff complete paid orientation, including food safety, IDDSI texture-modified diets, WHMIS, infection control and emergency procedures.
