About Nīzu

Nīzu is a Japanese-inspired café built around thoughtful preparation, quality ingredients, and food made with care.

Our kitchen focuses on yōshoku—Western dishes interpreted through a Japanese lens. Our meals are prepared fresh and from scratch, with an emphasis on house-made components, considered technique, and ingredients chosen for their quality and origin.

This same approach extends throughout Nīzu, from our kitchen and pastry program. We work closely with trusted producers and suppliers, believing that how something is sourced matters just as much as how it is prepared.

Overview

We are looking for an experienced kitchen team member who enjoys working collaboratively, approaches challenges with care and curiosity, and values the shared effort behind what we do.

Attention to Detail

You bring care and intention to every part of your work—from preparation and organization to seasoning, cooking, and presentation. You understand that consistency matters and take pride in executing dishes to the same standard every service.

Approach

You are dependable, organized, and comfortable working through a busy service. You take ownership of your station, stay ahead of prep, and recognize what needs attention without always waiting to be asked.

You work with a sense of urgency while maintaining composure, cleanliness, and care.

Communication and Growth

You communicate clearly and respectfully with the kitchen team, particularly around prep levels, shortages, timing, and anything that may affect service.

You are receptive to feedback, willing to continue learning,

and equally willing to share your experience and support those around you.

The Role

- Prepare and cook menu items according to established recipes, portions, and presentation standards.
- Work efficiently through prep and service while maintaining consistency and attention to detail.
- Set up, maintain, and close your station to established kitchen standards.
- Complete daily prep, including washing, cutting, portioning, marinating, cooking, and assembling ingredients.
- Maintain appropriate prep levels and communicate early when products or ingredients are running low.
- Follow recipes and preparation procedures accurately and consistently.
- Maintain proper food storage, labeling, rotation, and organization.
- Follow FoodSafe practices and established food-safety procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and service-ready workstation throughout the day.
- Assist with receiving, organizing, and storing ingredients and supplies when required.
- Communicate clearly with the team during preparation and service.
- Contribute to general kitchen cleaning, organization, and closing duties.
- Step in where needed during busy periods, including helping with dishes and shared cleaning.

Everyone contributes to keeping the kitchen moving.

Experience and Availability
- Previous experience in a professional kitchen, particularly in a prep or line position, is strongly valued.
- Comfortable working efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen while maintaining quality and consistency.
- Dependable, punctual, and prepared to take responsibility for your station and daily work.
- Able to prioritize tasks, stay organized, and communicate clearly with the rest of the kitchen.
- Comfortable completing prep independently and recognizing what needs attention throughout the day.
- Strong knife skills and familiarity with commercial kitchen equipment are considered an asset.
- FoodSafe Level 1 certification is preferred.
- Daytime availability, including regular weekend shifts, is required.

The Experience Join a thoughtful, close-knit kitchen where care, consistency, and collaboration shape the everyday.

This is a hands-on role for someone who takes pride in their work, understands the importance of preparation, and wants to contribute meaningfully to both the food we serve and the way the kitchen operates.

Next Steps

Please send your résumé, along with a brief introduction outlining your kitchen experience and availability. We welcome applications from cooks who value consistency, teamwork, quality, and care in their work.
