Rotation: 14 Days On / 14 Days Off

Caron Equipment Inc. is seeking an experienced Lead Hand to join our team at the IAMGOLD Côté Gold Mine near Gogama, Ontario. Candidates must have previous experience working in a Lead Hand or similar leadership role within a surface mining or heavy civil environment. The successful candidate will provide hands-on leadership and direction to field crews while supporting the Supervisor with daily operations, safety, productivity, and quality. This position will work on a 14-day in/14-day out rotation.

Responsibilities

- Provide day-to-day leadership and direction to field crews.
- Work closely with the Supervisor to coordinate daily work activities, priorities, and crew assignments.
- Lead by example and promote a strong safety culture at all times.
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with company, client, and site policies and procedures.
- Participate in daily toolbox meetings, FLRAs, workplace inspections, and other required safety activities.
- Monitor work areas and immediately address unsafe conditions, behaviours, or practices.
- Ensure crews understand daily work expectations and assigned tasks.
- Assist with coordinating equipment, operators, and resources required to complete scheduled work.
- Monitor work progress, productivity, and quality throughout the shift.
- Communicate operational issues, equipment concerns, delays, and safety matters to the Supervisor.
- Provide guidance and support to employees and assist with training and mentoring less experienced crew members.




- Ensure employees are following proper operating procedures and using equipment safely and responsibly.
- Assist with maintaining a productive and respectful work environment.
- Perform hands-on work as required to support the crew and daily operations.
- Ensure work areas are maintained in a clean, safe, and organized manner.
- Support environmental requirements and immediately report spills, incidents, hazards, or other concerns.
- Complete required documentation and reports as directed by the Supervisor.
- Perform other duties as required to support site operations.

Qualifications

- Previous experience in a Lead Hand or similar leadership role is required.
- Previous experience working in a surface mining or heavy civil construction environment is required.
- Strong knowledge of heavy equipment operations and safe work practices.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, direct, and motivate a field crew.
- Strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with Supervisors, employees, clients, and other contractors.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to prioritize work and respond effectively to changing site conditions.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced mining setting and meet operational deadlines.
- Valid driver’s licence.
- Ability to successfully meet all site access and employment requirements.
