Librarian (Research Literacy Facilitator)
Project Based Contract
This contract opportunity is for a facilitator to deliver Introduction to Research in Critical Care Paramedicine as part of an upcoming master’s-level project. The position involves 30 hours of live virtual and asynchronous online learning, plus any necessary preparation time.

Position Summary The Librarian (Research Literacy Facilitator) will deliver Introduction to Research in Critical Care Paramedicine to graduate-level learners, introducing the foundations of scholarly and applied research in health and emergency medical contexts. Through live virtual instruction and asynchronous online learning, the facilitator helps learners locate and evaluate scholarly literature, critically appraise research, understand research ethics and apply evidence to advanced clinical and professional decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate 6 hours of live virtual instruction and support 24 hours of asynchronous online learning for graduate-level learners in critical care paramedicine.
- Introduce foundational scholarly and applied research methods relevant to health and emergency medical practice.
- Guide learners in locating and evaluating scholarly literature using Fanshawe College’s library systems and specialized health and emergency medicine resources.
- Develop learners’ ability to critically appraise research evidence and assess its relevance to advanced clinical and professional practice.
- Facilitate the application of evidence-based practice and knowledge translation principles to critical care paramedicine decision-making.
- Introduce research ethics and governance, including the Tri-Council Policy Statement (TCPS 2) and the role of a Research Ethics Board (REB).
- Prepare learners to participate in applied, practice-based or scholarly research and communicate research-informed perspectives effectively.
Qualifications
- A PhD or Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS).
- Demonstrated expertise in research literacy, scholarly literature searching and the evaluation of academic sources.
- Strong understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methods, critical appraisal, knowledge translation and evidence-based practice.
- Familiarity with scholarly resources and research relevant to health sciences, emergency medicine or related clinical fields, would be a definite asset.
- Knowledge of research ethics involving human participants, including the Tri-Council Policy Statement (TCPS 2) and Research Ethics Board (REB) processes.
- Experience facilitating learning for adult or graduate-level audiences and connecting research concepts to advanced professional practice.
- Ability to facilitate live virtual instruction and support graduate-level learning in an asynchronous online workplace.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with the Fanshawe CTS project team.
