Job Overview
Under the guidance of the Director of Environmental Services, the Maintenance Assistant is responsible for performance of repairs, upkeep, maintenance and preventative maintenance, maintenance of the grounds, equipment, and supplies in a secure, efficient, and co-operative manner with consideration for residents and staff.
The Maintenance
Assistant will conduct themselves in a manner that enables exemplary standards of customer service in all aspects of service delivery, the achievement of strategic goals, optimizes shareholder value and is consistent with the Mission, Vision, and Values of the organization.
Responsibilities
- Participates in and adheres to continuous quality improvement standards.
- Performs repairs and preventative maintenance duties with an acceptable standard of skill and with a sense of responsibility in a timely and friendly manner.
- Responsible for inspecting resident suites upon resident turnover and ensuring suites are move-in ready for prospective residents including patching holes, painting, minor carpentry, electrical/plumbing, carpet cleaning, demolition of the suite, etc. and coordinating with contractors if necessary.
- Ensures that safety procedures are always adhered to while working in the residence.
- Responds to building emergencies appropriately.
- Upkeep of exterior building including grounds, common areas and garbage container areas.
- Performs regular daily and monthly maintenance checks of all equipment and supplies within the residence.
- Keeps work areas and storage rooms neat and orderly.
- Shares responsibility in the monitoring of all residents on a regular and on-going basis to ensure their safety and well-being. This protective oversight includes the responsibility to report any unusual occurrence, concern,
or change in a resident’s daily life which may affect their health or welfare.
- Changes light bulbs, hangs pictures, performs minor plumbing and electrical work.
- Maintains effective communication, both written and verbal with co-workers.
- Uses the appropriate lines of communication with supervisory staff.
- Assists during fire drills in the residence, as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Director of Environmental Services or designate.
- Complies with all corporate policies and procedures.
- Completes all required mandatory training/education.
- Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, and Workplace Hazardous Material Information System. This includes recognizing health and safety hazards, reporting incidents, fulfilling responsibilities under the applicable legislation, as well as participating in in-services and fire drills.
Experience
- Minimum of grade 12 education required.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar maintenance position is preferred.
- Must be able to communicate effectively, both written and verbally, in the English language.
- Experience and/or training in electrical or mechanical trades will be given preference.
- Able and willing to perform physical duties inside and outside the facility when necessary.
- Dependable, responsible and an ability to work well with others in a team environment and independently. Demonstrates a positive attitude necessary to meet the goals and standards of the residence.
- Must be capable of working in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be comfortable working with disinfectant and cleaning chemicals as well as hazardous materials.
Job Type: Part-time Pay: $21.00 per hour
